5.0 out of 5 stars Willie D aka Willie Dennis July 6, 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
For all these rappers out there they need to study their history. Public Enemy, NWA, Ice Cube, Geto Boys, Ice T and of Course Willie D. There are no rapper out today that can touch my man Willie D. I give it up to the old school rappers that have kept it real and true to themselves. Willie D by far is one of them. If America wants to know what really is going on in society then study this man. And when I was coming up listening to the Geto Boys I never really did feel scarface I was down with Willie D b/c he reminded me of my Uncle Jerry D. Its a Texas Thang. Just straight up in your face and real. And if anyone out there wants to here some real rap I suggest you pick up Jay Felony, Willie D, WC, Ice Cube, Mack 10, Geto Boys, Big Mike, MJG & Eightball, E-40. Okay so I like the South and West Coast but thats where the hardcore Hip Hop is. But Loved by few Hated by Many is a classic. Speak on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars IMPRESSIVE January 12, 2003
Format:Audio CD
i really dont like rap anymore due to the fact that the whole thing is ruined by commercial influeneces, which have diluted the genre. also, most if not all my favorite MC's have fallen off badly.
one exception is willie d, long time member of the geto boys. my brother paul bought me this album, i really like very few rap albums released in the last few years but this one completely blew me away. this is one of the purest, un-commercialised, raw releases in years. the production is top quality, with plenty of fresh, funky southern style smooth funk. people in the know always knew the most talented member of the geto boys wasn't the more fashionable scarface, or even the limited bushwick bill. will is The Man, always was.
willies raps are the best. hard, raw, yet refined and intelligent. willie is much smarter than the average uneducated MCs, and has lyrical abilities and creativity lacking in the big name artists out there. this is REAL RAP. his flows are perfect, he keeps guest spots down to a minimum(thankfully), so you get a rap album the way they used to be, TRUE SOLO ALBUMS, without a 100 guests ruining the flavour and individuality of the record.
long term fans know willies always been the real. in 1989 when geto boys released their classic 'grip it! on that other level' willie released a solo album on the side, the equally classic 'controversy'. after geto boys hit big in 1991 with 'we cant be stopped' willie followed it up with 1992s average 'goin out lika soldier'... after this willie d abandoned the geto boys and rap-a-lot records over money disputes. he released 1994s brilliant 'play witcha mama'. an album of flavour and raw rhymes and excellent subject matter.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a crime !!!!!! March 19, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is another classic from the best of the Geto Boys and a long term champion not only of gangsta rap, but also the best of the South. The Geto Boys are legends and pioneers and Willie D is the most talented, but oh, so terribly underrated. Scarface earns the solid reputation he commands, but I just don't know why Willie D does not have the same profile - he has it all: voice, presence, delivery and great lyrics. How many rappers can command attention over a whole album, without needing ' Name ' guest appearances to sustain interest. His latest is again a gem from start - street savvy, ghetto attitude, love and sex rhymes for the lovers, politics and American current affairs.I love the range and variety and do not pick out favourites - they are all distinctive . I do not readilly give 5 stars and this misses out simply because of some reservation on some of the production. It's a crime to see Willie D remain so underrated in these days of sub-standard artists going gold and platinum.

4.0 out of 5 stars A true fan from the late 80's December 24, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
It has to be who you know. I'm not a rap fan. My musical tastes range from Keiko Matsui to classic r and b but I've been a Willie D fan from his early Ghetto Boys days. Before Eminem, even before Tupac, Willie D was, and still is, the premiere hardcore rapper. His talent is so good that's it's a shame he couldn't shine like he was supposed to. It must be who you know because he's the best hands down rapper on the scene. Not even my boy Tupac was as gritty in his depictions of poverty, violence and nobody was or is as graphic and outspoken when it comes to race. You can't rap like he can if you've been sheltered. He's been around. I wrote a book called GOTTA BE DOWN! and I wish I'd had a dude like this as a technical adviser. He's raw. Most of the mainstream rappers today look like pootbutts by comparison.

5.0 out of 5 stars Willie D's Second Best album February 19, 2001
Format:Audio CD
Lyrically, this is easily Willie D's best album. Musically, this is probably Willie's best album (not that that's a monumental achievement). Overall, it's his second best album, the best being "Controversy". The reason: Willie's trademark shouting is nonexistent. It's almost as if he lacks the enthusiasm he had at the beginning of his career. With that said, the album is very enjoyable, much better than Scarface's latest album. If you're a fan of the Geto Boys, you'll love the album. If you're a fan of Scarface (post "The World is Yours"), you probably won't like it.
