Wish I'd read this one first,
By A grateful new crafter (Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Loved By Choice: True Stories That Celebrate Adoption (Paperback)
We're in the process of applying to adopt a child, and I've read about 23 books on the subject (all aspects). This one is by far the most encouraging!I heard the authors on a national radio show, and couldn't wait to get their book. I was not disappointed. Wish I'd read this one FIRST. There are stories from every---and I do mean e-v-e-r-y---point of view in the adoptive process, including family members on both sides, all written in first-person format. Particularly helpful were the chapters by birthmoms; they helped me come to understand and respect b-moms more than all the meetings at our agency put together. Another thing I appreciated very much is that I got the distinct impression that the authors weren't skittish about pointing out the difficult aspects of becoming adoptive parents, including the excruciating waiting periods. Both domestic and international adoption were handled with honesty and accuracy, according to my own research. I'm pretty sure my copy will be dog-eared and well-worn before long. Now I want to get a copy for all the church and public libraries I know!

AS THE MOTHER OF AN ADOPTED DAUGHTER, I FOUND THIS BOOK OF TRUE STORIES TO BE COMFORTING AND ENLIGHTENING. IT OPENED MY EYES TO MANY OF THE STRUGGLES MY DAUGHTER AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED OVER THE PAST 21YEARS. I FEEL THE MATERIAL IN THIS BOOK WAS TOTALLY A BLESSING AND I FEEL ANYONE WHO READS IT WOULD BE BLESSED.

I am the adopted mother of a 6 year old girl adopted at birth. I have always enjoyed reading books about adoption from everyones perspective. And this has everyones story. All ages, birthparents, adoptees, grandparents and adoptive parents.I like to read about adoption because it is our families reality. Unless you have been thru it and up close it is hard to understand. I feel like I am reading a foreign language for my family. Very positive and real stories. People not afraid to pointout the negative or the challenging aspects of adoption. All told with love. I gave it 4 stars because it is VERY religous. I am not against this but I was not necessarily looking for it. Those who do not have the religous beliefs of the authors may be put off.

Its such a joy to read these stories. So many books are how to adopt or the nightmare stories of problems the children have. This is filled with wonderful short stories written by adoptees, birth mothers, adoptive mothers, even the grandmothers. It is so positive and touching! Adopting is such an emotional rollercoaster and its great to delight in positive thoughts through these stories! The reassurance during the hard times.

Adoptions from all perspectives--A Great Book!,
By Kelly J Martindale (Frederick, CO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Loved By Choice: True Stories That Celebrate Adoption (Paperback)
If you are thinking about adoption, whether to adopt or to relinguish, Loved by Choice is for you. Perhaps you have a friend with personal adoption experience, then Loved by Choice is for them as well. This book is written from all perspectives; birth moms, dads, adoptive parents, siblings, grandparents. There are chapters on special needs and bi-racial adoptions and stories of international adoptions. All true, some heartwrenching, but all prove that adoption is the best choice for those in the stories. A great resource, encourager, examples, and even terms. Written in a way that you can read one or multiple stories at a sitting. Well worth your time.

I love this book as I have three children through adoption. I have also bought this book as a gift for friends who have also adopted. Now that my children are older I have let them read through this book also. It gives a positive illustration of adoption and helps make us all proud of how we became a family.

Heartwarming stories of adoption,
By
This review is from: Loved By Choice: True Stories That Celebrate Adoption (Paperback)
When an individual or couple chooses to embark on the journey of adoption, whether as birthparents or adoptive parents, the plethora of books on the subject can often be overwhelming. Most books deal with what to expect in the legal process, special considerations that some families or their children may experience or psychological analyses of adopted children. Although the literature choices are many, there are few books that approach the delicate subject of adoption from the perspective of virtually everyone involved. Loved By Choice does just that in a heartwarming and moving way with true stories contributed by birthmothers, siblings, adoptive parents, grandparents and individuals who were themselves adopted as children.
Packed with emotion, each story communicates a part of the adoption story. It's the anguish a mother feels in choosing adoption for her little one. It's the ecstasy of new parents receiving into their arms their daughter for the first time. It's the grandparents struggling to come to terms with their daughter being pregnant, but join in support as their granddaughter is taken away, sometimes forever. It's in the mystery surrounding the unknown past of an adult who was adopted as a child and searching for answers. Through all the stories, the incredibly hard journey is chronicled through so many different lenses that you can't help but wonder at the strength each person displays. But with each story, the marvel of the journey is presented with celebration and the fact that each child was loved. As an adoptive parent of three beautiful children, each of their stories could very well have been one in this book. My oldest is always asking us to tell him the story of how he came to be our little boy and always likes the part about how he laughed and laughed during the very turbulent flight home. My hope is that just as the stories in this book celebrate adoption, so too my children will celebrate their story of adoption. |
