Book Description

A-list actress, 17-year-old Liana Marie Michael struggles to find herself when Hollywood's obsession with youth and power threatens to destroy her future.

Liana is dating Hollywood's hottest heartthrob and is on-set filming her seventh motion picture with sexy co-star Byron. Surrounded by a culture of casual sex, drinking and drugs, Liana feels lost and confused. To top it all off, she realizes she may be deeply in love with her childhood best friend, who is NOT a fan of the Hollywood scene. With her film soon to wrap, her acting contracts up for renewal, her high school graduation looming and growing tension between her and Manuel, life feels overwhelming. Will Lia Marie find the courage to share her love for Manuel? In the eternal quest for youth, what life-shattering secrets has Lia's mom been keeping from her? Can Lia's wish to live a "normal life" ever come true?

LOVED IN PIECES is not only a love story. With fast-paced narrative that reflects Hollywood's hyper-drive lifestyle, Ms. Hanna transports the reader into an actor's daily life and demonstrates how difficult it is for young adults to break free from a path created by someone else - even when it is a successful one.

Editorial Reviews

Review

5 STAR - "This book was written for me. I'm 17, too. I identified with everything Liana Marie went through even though I'm not an actress. I'm a student athlete and feel exactly the same way about everything - what I should do with guys?, should I quit playing if I don't make state?, will my parents forgive me if I do?, how can I be true to myself?, does praying help?, etc...

I'm also mad at the reviews I read. Those ladies who didn't like it seem so old and out of touch - totally backwards. I'd hate it if my mom tried to shelter me from talking about sex and, honestly, take offense to how some of the reviewers don't know what it is like to be a teenager today. And reality alert: you do know we see R-rated movies, right? All of my friends and I are trying to figure out what we're supposed to do with guys and EVERY movie we see has either sex or intense violence: The Lucky Guy, Breaking Dawn, Magic Mike. Hunger games doesn't have the sex but it has way too much violence. I mean, COME ON reviewers, get real.

I also loved how fast I read this book. It took me 3 days with a super busy schedule of school, homework, practice, and games. I thought it was super well-written and moved fast with a totally awesome twist. I LOVED it. NOT DULL. Really, I have no idea how anyone could hate on this book.

It's also cool that the characters have different religions and have different races. I'm white but am so sick of reading about white characters all the time.

If you're a teen or college student, you'll LOVE this book." - Tami Kellog, ckkids

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCITING DEBUT September 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book to give to my 17 year-old and then with nothing on-hand to read I thought "well, let me just read this new book...it says that it is the first in a trilogy or maybe it said a 4 volume series." Anyway I was bored.

Short of reading ingredients I really had nothing. I could NOT put it down and finished it in a one day marathon. The characters and in particular the protagonist, a young Hollywood celebrity who is on the cusp of many changes, many wrought with complications-from her love life to her actress Mother's agenda to the disturbing complexities of life as an "actor." I don't want to give away any of the story's exciting plot points but if my daughter doesn't love this novel as I did...I will be shocked. It is a wonderful, real life alternative to Vampires, Wizards and Rich girl "bullyfests."

I am giving 12 copies to my daughters "posse" for Christmas. Less Juicy Couture...more "Loved in Pieces."

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for young and old September 5, 2012
By Connie
Format:Kindle Edition
Loved In Pieces is more than a wonderful love story. I love the messages in this book: honesty and trust improve self-esteem, trusting others gives one strength to overcome adversity, and treating others with respect improves our compassion and understanding. This novel gave me that same feeling of self-reflection I got when I finished The Hunger Games in which I was a participant watching violence for entertainment as did the Capital citizens. Loved In Pieces elegantly shows how attacking a public figure hurts or own sense of what is socially acceptable in our daily lives. When we participate in bullying someone on-line, our society changes and tolerates unacceptable behavior. No wonder bullying is becoming such a problem for our children when the media encourages our participation. This book is a must-read for all of us, young and old alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved in Pieces October 15, 2012
Format:Paperback
I realize I am not a YA, so had to read the book through a bit of a different lens. I found the characters interesting and relatable in terms of being a human, loving, and wanting love. I am certainly interested in how the series continues and how "the twist" plays out. I would recommend this book.

More About the Author

LOVE. BETRAYAL. ACTING. YOUNG HOLLYWOOD TRAPPED IN A WEB OF LIES. THE STARLET SERIES.

The Starlet Series is about a child star / daughter of an a-list actress. It is very realistic, capturing how the children of stars talk in scripts. In real life, they cuss in every sentence as they "run lines" and it's really jarring to hear. I had to remove the cussing to be YA but I think the reader can still get the feeling that Lia and Evan are absolutely unique. The Starlet series is not like any other book about teen stars you've read because it is not paparazzi-driven - that's just not 'real'. I know because I lived in the house that I describe in the book in Santa Monica. I was not an actress but all my friends were industry people. I'm in the second book (Can you guess who?).

I wrote the series after holding my dad's hand through all his cancer treatments (chemo and radiation) for palate cancer and lymphoma at the same time that my daughter was diagnosed with a pituitary gland problem and precocious puberty.

My series started with two simple questions: What if we stayed in Santa Monica, California? What if my kids continued to play with the sweet, isolated children of celebrities?

My tall, beautiful daughter would have wanted to become a swimsuit model and my charming son would have dated Violet Affleck. I would have begged them not to become actors.

Starlet's Web - Can a teen actress and a Latino Tim Tebow stand up to Hollywood's web of lies? A fast read with plot twists.

Starlet's Run - In a world where an actress is a product and everyone is a critic, can their love survive? Should it? A slower, deeper read with character development.

Starlet's Light - Young Hollywood actress, Liana Marie Michael, is 'so done' with acting. She gives up the fight until she sees the light.
