Review

Finding herself in trouble, and desperate not to shame her family, Flame Chadwick heads for Fort Hardaway in west Texas to join her fiance, hopeful for the kind of love her parents share for each other and their three daughters. When Robert is killed in an Apache attack, however, Flame finds herself marrying scout Matthew Jackson, a cold man who believes her to be nothing more than she seems, a woman in trouble trying to land a husband and a place in society. But an old tragedy that haunts Matt causes him to take his promise to Robert seriously. Only when Matt realizes that Flame has overcome hardships just as he has and together the two must face even more tragedies, does he realize she is not what she originally appeared to be, but is in fact the woman he loves. Though Flame realizes her love much sooner, it is her love for him that nearly costs her her life at the hands of Matt's old enemy.Evelyn has a special way with characters that makes you feel each emotion, living their lives through her eyes. I look forward to the next installment in the Chadwick Trilogy - the two sisters, Raven and Angel are equally intriguing! These are characters to curl up with any time of the year Ms. Rogers turns a barren west Texas into a lovers paradise! The name says it all - this one's hot!!Diane Potwin -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

More About the Author

Evelyn Rogers's first job was selling women's underwear in a downtown Houston department store.  She's since hawked candy at Sears, worked the switchboard at a commercial laundry, planned programs at an Air Force service club, taught English and was a librarian, the last two for 25 years in middle schools.
Each had its rewards and challenges, but no more so than her final chosen profession:  writer.  The award-winning author of 31 books and 8 novellas, she found great satisfaction not only in her craft but also in meeting readers across the U.S.
She and her husband live in San Antonio, frequently visited,  energized, and, yes, exhausted by their five grandsons.  But she still misses those up-close-and-personal visits with her readers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, run of the mill western., October 25, 2004

This review is from: Flame (Lovegram Historical Romance) (Paperback)
The plot is pretty basic stuff. Innocent girl runs after army lieuteant who took her innocence and left her pregnant, only to find he's engaged to another. However the angst driven army scout marries red headed, fiesty Flame to give the child a name. The rest of the story is fighting the indians. A lot of hot sex ensues in this supposed marriage of convenience. The story's saving grace is that the characters are wonderful and very real as are the secondary characters. The dialogue is also enjoyable. Although a neat read it's not a keeper. Trilogy includes books on sister Raven (black haired), and sister Angel (blonde)

5.0 out of 5 stars Try it, you'll love it!, June 23, 2011
This review is from: Flame (Lovegram Historical Romance) (Paperback)
This book is a must read for those who love historical romance. The setting starts out hopeful, like the lush Savannah Georgia, as hopeful as our inpregnated heroine, Flame Chadwick. Then, turns to the bleak dusty forts and shantytowns of untamed Texas and into the forced marriage to Matt Jackson, army scout and friend of the now deceased father of Flame's innocent unborn.
This marriage starts out as a way to save the honor of both Flame and "Annie", as she calls the baby invetro, but quickly ignites a flame in both husband and wife. Flame is a capable, strong woman, yet fair of heart and virtue despite her unseemly (for the time) circumstances.
Rough terrain, cutthroat Indians, lusty and descriptive secondary characters, Flame by Evelyn Rogers delivers over and over and over again. Especially if you've read it more than once, like me.
