Deserves More Credit,
This review is from: Lovehatetragedy (Audio CD)
I figured I'd put in my opinion sence so many people seem to give this CD such a bad rep. Even large Papa Roach fans really seem to put down this CD. The fact is this is all around a great CD. The whole CD has a type of hopeless/angry moodset which I think turns people away, but infact, this is what makes it such a great CD. It's how Papa Roach draws their great energy and puts it into the music. It's one of the best modern Hard Rock albums fueled by these emotions. Getting to the actual songs.... Standout songs from the album are probably M-80 (Explosive Energy Movement), Time and Time Again, She Loves Me Not, Code Of Energy, and Gouge Away. I personally love all the songs. It is true that Papa Roach doesn't venture out much to try to make their songs drasticly different, but it kind of keeps with the albums mood. I should also mention that their vocalist is pretty freaking amazing, a great modern Hard Rock vocalist. Point is you probly have to hear it for yourself. If the only hard rock your into is like AC/DC, the fun stuff, then this probly isn't for you. A little more on the darker serious side.

Everything about Papa Roach is cliche. The lyrics most of the times are tired and tried, the riffs sound used, the melodies are only halfway respectable, and very rarely does this band surprise. Despite all that, Lovehatetragedy is a good CD. Papa Roach don't really build from where we saw them with Infest, nor do they decline. Basically, Lovehatetragedy is a continuation of Infest, an Infest Pt. 2 if you will.
Infest was a great rap/rock record, this I will acknowledge, and it would've been immature to think they would top that with this release. They didn't, and I don't mind one bit because I've enjoyed this CD on many ocassions. What is different with this CD is that there are more melodic moments scattered throughout. Decompression Period features great singing from Jacoby, as does Black Clouds. On the other side though, the heaviness is still there. M-80 (Explosive Energy Movement) is probably among one of the band's heaviest songs. Life Is A Bullet and Time And Time Again follow somewhat in the same vein, with Life Is A Bullet no doubt coming out the winner. Of the two 'bonus' tracks, Never Said It is much better than Gauge Away. Gauge Away seems even below Papa Roach's standards quite frankly. Never Said It features a great opening riff accompanied by great vocal execution, a nice closer really. My favorite songs are Life Is A Bullet, Decompression Period, She Loves Me Not, Singular Indestructible Droid, and Never Said It. With as cheap as this CD is now there's no doubt that it's worth the money. And besides, the baby on the cover alone is worth the price. If you liked Papa Roach before this CD, this won't change your mind, good or bad. Sounds like Infest, flows like Infest, it's just a good CD.

This new album has nothing to do with Infest (except for "she loves me not"since the song was produced at the same time). In Lovehatetragedy, we discover Coby's (Jacoby in fact) singing talents. The record is very melodious with a great instrumental background. The guitar still has that sharp noise and the drums are just great. All this contributes to an album full of energy. The lyrics are also of an excellent quality which shows that this band has grown up a lot since their last album.

Entertainmentopia Review,
By Erich Becker (Tempe, Arizona United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lovehatetragedy (Audio CD)
Papa Roach publicly stated that they wanted the follow-up to their debut album, Infest, to have a much more mature tone, and on that point they rightfully succeeded. By creating a healthy mix of rock and rap-influenced-rock lead singer Jacoby Shaddix (formally Coby Dick) is able to sing more, and rap less, which, depending on your liking of Papa Roach's music, is good or bad.To those missing the hard-rock, rap-stunts aspect of Infest, you will find a much older band with much more melody. lovehatetragedy's first single, "She Loves Me Not," is a pop-inspired romp through a troubled relationship which feels somewhat alienated on the CD. The real winning tracks come in the form of "Time and Time Again," which has been recently featured in Pepsi Blue commercials, and the title track "lovehatetragedy." As a prerequisite for most bands in this day and age, Papa Roach decided to feature a cover track of the Pixies "Gouge Away." As an example of the new emotional tone to Papa Roach, the song "Dark Clouds," Jacoby proclaims: "This is making me crazy / These black clouds following me / So I look for signs of light / But rarely I see them." You can see that things are much more organized, it almost feels as though the album was designed with a clear mind, instead of the disjointed Infest which stuck with a general tone, but featured ideas all over the place. With lovehatetragedy, things appear more concise with several ongoing themes present in each song including references to skin, depression, and love. With a more emotional sound album, Papa Roach no longer becomes mixed in the shuffle of "hardcore bands" who scream, whim, and come off with a bad attitude. While the latest addition is not quite punk, it's not quite nu-metal, and it's not quite straight rock and roll, it does feature elements from all three of those genres and melds them together in a sometimes melody filled, sometimes beat filled rock session that brings Papa Roach to the surface of MTV wannabe's and rejects. Not saying that Papa Roach is wanting to be on MTV, it just may be better to remove them from that mindset and let them creatively explore their music rather than think about what some inane VJ thinks. As a follow-up to Infest, lovehatetragedy proves that the sophomore curse isn't always as bad as some band's make it out to be. Even with the more emotion filled music with may drive off longtime, hardcore Papa Roach fans, this CD proves that bands get better with age and maturity. -Erich Becker has a love/relationship with himself.

The albums great but yes its hard to tell which song's which because all his songs are similair, but anyway great album worth buying. The best song on the album is TIME AND TIME AGAINwhich has the best intro with the the band doing some howl with the guitars being played heavy, and the music after that is great, and the chorus is good and its the singers voice at his best. I may not know what papa roach's albums where like before this one since i've only just been introduced to them, But all i can say is that its a great album and i gave it a 5 stars mainly because i would give this album more than an 8/10, and if it was given an eight out of ten i'd give it 4 stars. I can only think of 3 band better than papa roach, system of a down, linkin park and korn. ... I think papa roach should try make each of his songs sound different to one because it takes ages to remember what each song sounds like. If your thinking of getting the album don't get the one with bonus [stuff] because the album has to bonus tracks and there both bad, any way my least favorite song on the album is gauge away which is trying to say that if you ever have any problems you can gauge away which im sure means something like take drugs. The most well known song on the album is propbably SHE LOVES ME NOT which is a very rappy song with mad guitar riffs. The saddest song on the album is WALKING THRU BARBED WIRE which i think he is talking about a pet of his that he missed and that he could die for him/her and he wishes him/her good luck in their next life. Overall great album worth buying so WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! GO BUY IT!

Good.....but forgettable,

I was absolutely pumped to buy this CD when it came out. Having heard "She Loves Me Not" on the radio, it seemed that this band was going to add on some amazing songs to their last CD "Infest". Which by the way was very good. When I listened to the album however, nothing stuck. To this date I have listened to this album several times and still nothing sticks in my head. I hate to say it, but Jacoby's rapping is what really made this band shine. It gave a Rage Against the Machine feel to the music. With this album it just feels.....well bland. I found myself missing the old album and when I want to hear Papa roach, "Infest" is the CD I put in. Tracks like "Between Angels and Insects" and "Revenge" capture what this band could be like. I heard that Jacoby wanted to sing more on this album to catch more emotion, which is fine, but the rapping caught the angst and rage that made their first album so great. Hopefully they will meet somewhere in the middle on their next CD. So in short if you are going to buy a Papa Roach CD, buy "Infest" and skip the tragedy.

While Getting Away With Murder is definitely one of--if not my favorite, albums, Love/Hate/Tragedy is really pretty average. There are a few standout tracks such as Time and Time Again, M80, and Black Clouds, and a few other decent ones, such as Born With Nothing, Die With Everything, and She Loves me Not, the rest are pretty average, and some, like Decompression Period, just plain suck. Their sophmore effort is not a great one, but I guess we can be happy that their next one will kick ass. Here is a rating of every song on a scale from 1-10.
M80--9/10 Great way to start the album, they DO tend to start of albums in a nice way. This one has a nice kick-ass feel to it. Life is a Bullet--7/10 weird song, but not horrible. Too depressing, their cd is overall pretty depressing. Not too catchy, though. Time and Time Again--9/10 One of their best songs. The best song, in my humble opinion. Very re-listenable, if that is a word. Good guitars, great song. Walking Thru Barbed Wire--7/10 Another average song, very depressing, not too good. Decompression Period--5/10 I can't stand this song, although there is a cool part where he changes pace, but it never goes anywhere, worst song on cd. Born With Nothing, Die With Everything--7/10 Decent song, but the whole 'searching inside myself for the truth' thing is a little annoying. Decent guitars, and pretty listenable. She Loves Me Not--8/10 Good song, catchy, but the only place in the cd where he raps, which is not a good thing, still decent song. Singular Indestructable Droid--8/10 This song kind of makes sense, but there is some nice screaming and a hard-rock feel to it, nice song. Black Clouds--9/10 Love this song, even if it is too depressing. Done well by Shaddix and the bass and guitars were great. Code of Energy--8/10 Don't know what to think about this song. I love the hard rock feel, and the rapid pace. Good song by roach. Love/Hate/Tragedy--8/10 I like this song for some reason. Not the best ending song, not that it is--there are 2 more bonus tracks, which are soso. Good tempo changes, and SOME catchy lyrics. Gouge Away--8/10 I like this song, although roach didn't write it, some other dude did. it is alright. Never Said It--7/10 nice drums in this, but not that great, like most songs on here, dont know why they put it in here. Overall, this album gets a 7/10, because, although i hate the rappy feel to infest, they somehow managed to still make it catchy, and GAWM, which was phenominal, i LOVE that album, get GAWM instead of this one, unless, like me, you are a die hard PAPA ROACH fan. Bye

If you heard Papa roach's last effort Infest, then you should know what to expect, no surprises here.Songs are well written and the guitar riffs are a little more complex than the last album. Dark themes make up most of this album, depression, dysfuncion, love, hate and of course tragedy. all of us have already heard "she loves me not", but there are plenty of other good songs on here as well. Decompression period, time and time again, and born with everything die with nothing, are in my opinion the best songs on here. If you like the last album you will definitely like this, if you havent heard the last cd, buy it first then give this one a try. Not for everybody, very dark and powerful material. the reason i gave it 4 stars is because of the lack of originality, the industry is overloaded with half assed clones of the same hard rock(nu-metal) mold, and even though they pull that sound off they still fall in with the other guys. I have high hopes for this band though, i think they will be able to be great later on down the road. a good album and definitely worth buying.

I love this cd! Its one of my favorties of all time. Yes its a little dark but that's what I like about it. The music really spoke to me during a dark time in my life. But now that my life is much happier it really energizes me during my workouts. Its amazing, and if you haven't been to a show you must go! Most energetic show ever.
