Back in 1999 Merz was everywhere: Top Of The Pops, Later With Jools Holland, and Glastonbury to name but a few. He was even the subject of a 4Music documentary on Channel 4. Signed to Sony/Epic, he looked set to conquer the world. Since his considerable splash, Merz has apparently disappeared without a trace. But six years later, he is well and truly back with a dazzling album, `Loveheart'. Elaborating on his early pastoral influences, the album features an astonishing range of delicate instrumentation, and crucially, is illuminated by brilliant arrangements. `Loveheart' is the work of a gifted and passionate songwriter with a rare musical talent.

A departure from his well received debut Merz but imbued with the same understated passion and grace, Conrad Lambert's long-overdue follow-up does not startle on a first listen; it's charms will work their way into your subconscious gradually. Soon it feels like a fluffy dressing gown after a hot bath. Recommended to any but the most loutish headbanger.
