5.0 out of 5 stars Changing with the Times
I was in anticipation of this album for a long time. The Blenders are my all-time favorite group and to anyone who has seen them live, you know this album showcases almost everything they can do. 1.0 out of 5 stars They are selling out!
It appears that in the light of all the boy bands out there making gross amounts of money, that the blenders finally sold out. It was bound to happen. Just like the Nylons before them, they have produced a so called "pop" album that seems to take roots from groups such as the Back Street Boys. If you are looking for an acapella album you would be better...

Just like the Nylons before them, they have produced a so called "pop" album that seems to take roots from groups such as the Back Street Boys. If you are looking for an acapella album you would be better getting their older albums. If you are looking for typically "boy-pop", i supose you'd like this album. The harmonies may be nice but the lyrics are a little lackluster, i.e. "McDonalds Girl"?

4.0 out of 5 stars No hype, just pure vocal talent!, May 28, 2000

Sure, the Backstreet Boys have some good tunes. 'N Sync seems to try, but they rank amongst the weakest voices in pop music (the lead's voice is so thin and tenuous!). Finally, here's a vocal group that doesn't exude pseudo-street cred or rely on a billion-dollar hype machine. If you're a fan of pop music, vocal music, or just GREAT music in general, you MUST give this CD a spin! Show the industry that hype doesn't always win out over quality!

3.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointing, February 6, 2001

Let me start by saying that The Blenders are one of my favorite groups. I was hoping that on this, their 5th album of entirely new material, ("Now & Then" contained 3 songs from each previous album as well as 3 new tracks) they would get back to their roots of acapella. Well maybe I was expecting too much. Despite all of its horrible boy-band vibe, some tracks, like their wonderful cover of Curtis Mayfeild's "People Get Ready" and the fabulous "Turn Around" are worth it. "Can't Get Over You" is good pop song at best, but not really Blenders material. I'm sure some people won't be dissapointed by this album. I was. Nice try, Blenders. There's always another album.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am in love with the Mc Donald's Girl (and the Blenders), December 28, 2000
This review is from: Loveland (Audio CD)
If you're looking for a manufactured pop group lacking rythmn or talent, you're glancing at the wrong CD. The Blenders are anything but. They prove that talent and true passion are a winning combo. Ever since I got the cd I've been playing it on repeat in my stereo. The vocals are awesome, the lyrics are sweet, and the beats are good. It's definately work buying whether you're a long time fan of the Blenders, or listening for the first time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Generic pop sound, June 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Loveland (Audio CD)
I should qualify my assessment of this album by noting that if what you want is soft rock without concern for lyrics, this is fine.

This is certainly not what I hoped to hear.

I really liked the album "Totally Whipped". It had terrific a capella, and the lyrics were creative and off-beat. This effort lacked that character and was a drastic change of direction that I thought was bland. The instrumentals were uninteresting, the vocals were nowhere near as clever as on their a capella efforts. I found this to be generic, syrupy pop music.

I suppose that musicians--all people, really--ought to do what makes them happy. It is unfortunate for the fan when that happiness goes in a direction that is unappealing.

Here's hoping for another cutting-edge a capella effort down the road...

5.0 out of 5 stars No typical boyband here!, June 4, 2000

Although it isn't a cappella, it is still an awesome album! The CD basically lives in my player and is put on repeat! It has a lot of tight beats and smooth grooves! My cousin and I party on the road with this CD too! Although the entire album is awesome, there are a couple tunes I "play favorites" with. "Love Land" has a Jackson 5 feel to it, it really rocks! Rhythmically, "Forgiven" has an Alliyah/Timberland bounce to it; totally can groove. "Everyday" is my party song! It's one for you to put on in your car while driving with the top down and the wind blowing in your hair! Also, they did the chart "Cherish" and it is one of the best versions I've ever heard!

1.0 out of 5 stars only terrible cd they have put out, November 27, 2002
By
This review is from: Loveland (Audio CD)
i can see what these guys are trying to do; expand their market appeal. but sorry, leave the teen pop to the backstreet boys. stick to the tight harmonies!! even their self titled cd using instruments was 10X better than this. couldn't even listen to it more than once and i ditched it into the used bin.
