This review is from: Loveless: Volume 3 - Blackwater Falls (Vertigo) (Paperback)
Weak and haphazard with no real direction. The characters that were established in volume one seem to cese interacting with each other. Relationships disolve, characters stop talking to each other, conflicts and intentions go unresolved, and politcal commentary regarding occupation and reconstruction cease. I loved volume 1 and much of volume 2, what the hell happened?

Good Art, Good Locution, Poor Plot,

This review is from: Loveless: Volume 3 - Blackwater Falls (Vertigo) (Paperback)
This is the first collection I have read in the series, I read the first issue of the comic some time ago and liked it a great deal. However, this collection did not impress me. The dialogue was written with detail in such a way as to stress the dialects of the Old South which was welcome. However, the plot and characters were lacking in any real pull. They had all the appearances of being meaningful, with interesting premises, and hooks, but when put together and told, they fell into a non-page-turning saga. Granted, the plot had potential, it was just the telling that fell short.
As for the art, I found it to be very good. Both the moody block-print style of Zezelj and the classic style of Dell'Edera. |
