Book Description

Lovely Strings
The bridge is blocked by a downed tree during a storm leaving seven strangers stranded in a cabin in the Appalacian mountains where there is no electric and no one's cell phone is working. The letter from the law firm they were summoned there by stated there was a will involved and they must be present to inherit but the women were not aware anyone they knew died. Mystery is layered upon mystery because the lawyer had not yet arrived.
Then, Jenna has an idea: "Let's tell our stories. We're bound to connect in some way. Maybe we will be able to figure out what's going on and who has died and why they wanted to bring us here. After all," she reasons: "We're not going anywhere and it's still raining."
Not everyone likes the plan though, especially when revealing things about their past is involved. And someone else in the cabin has made the decision not to tell what she has been able to deduce but she has her reasons too. Then, there's Bethany, a woman haunted by her past, who wonders darkly as she contemplates going down the road of no return: "Can you inherit bad things too?"
Finally, some of the pieces of the puzzle begin to come together for the women when they discover a letter attached to an antique wardrobe in the basement. The discovery spurs May on to telling them her story. The others are captivated by what they hear and learn but one is angered until she finds out an amazing truth hidden from her for over a decade.
Finally, as the "strings" that connect them are exposed, secrets kept for years are uncovered and friendships are formed. A lost love is found and relationships once thought gone forever are renewed in this inspirational and intriguing novel.
And all this time, there is someone waiting—waiting and longing for another way to begin their life again but no one even knows they exist.

"Lovely Strings is more than just one mystery and one happy ending and more than just one story."

5.0 out of 5 stars lovely book September 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a wonderful and beautifully written story of loss, secrets, and ultimately love and forgiveness. The characters are so vibrant that you feel connected with them quickly. The stories they carry are powerful and they way they are all connected is imaginative and intense. I was hooked almost immediately and did not want to stop reading. Twist, turns, secrets galore. And the facts were revealed in just the right way that it kept you guessing and interested. You can tell the author really understands the strength of relationships between both women and men. I enjoyed the way everyone was connected to this one central person, who we never actually "meet", but feel like we know intimately at the end.

In the beginning, I liked the way each character was presented with one salient fact about themselves (presented by their thoughts and/or words). Then the author continued to reinforce that one fact through the chapter, so when you saw someone's name you remembered who they were and subsequently their story. This is helpful when a number of characters (especially all women) are introduced all at once. I really enjoy novels with multiple story lines that converge at some point and this one was executed wonderfully.

The small snatches of insight from the prisoner between each chapter were a great addition. They are small sections with big thoughts and addressing large issues. I could not wait to see how that tied in with the story about Patricia. I also really enjoyed following her progression of rediscovering God and then embracing him. This was very powerful and great to read.

I personally dislike Patricia and loathed Drew.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read! April 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I could not put this book down. There were a lot of twist and turns as I discovered about each character in the book. Author has a great way with words and the ability to make you see each character and events through her storytelling. A good clean mystery for Christian reading. She has a fantastic imagination. By the time I finished the book I felt like I was also a friend of the characters. It was such a good read. I love a book that you don't want to put it down, because you can't wait to see what happens next in the story. I loved reading this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Strings is worth the read! March 7, 2013
The author did an admirable job weaving multiple voices into a moving and interesting story. I especially liked the list of characters at the beginning of the book. I wish more authors would do this as it helps one remember who's who. I also liked the faith/spiritual aspect of the book. So many books lately are neutral at best or negative when it comes to any kind of faith. The book is slow starting but you soon get into the the story and the believable/engaging characters. The main problem with the book is the failure in proofreading and the consequent careless errors in spelling, grammar, character names and layout. These errors are distracting but the story is definitely worth reading. The author needs an editor or a circle of friends to preview and correct drafts. Putting this story into print was flawed, but the story and it's development/ writing are wonderful. The author is to be commended; give her a try!

More About the Author

After my children were grown, I finally went to college and majored in creative writing. I use my life experience to weave the stories I've always wanted to tell and to make the lives of the people in them ring true.
My books hold the lives of characters I believe in--people who seem to exist somewhere outside my mind in another world. I don't need to write fantasy when reality is so fantastical.
I know that people get blind-sided by alarming truths every day and everyone, if they've lived very long at all, knows someone who has gone through a tragedy and rose up out of it stronger and more determined.
I love characters like that. You want to find out what makes them tick--why they are so strong. These are the people I write about. And you won't be able to guess everything that's going to happen. We can't do it in life. Why should we be able to do it in the books we read? My life has had a little bit of everything--romance, mystery, valleys and mountain-top experiences. My books have those things too.
Writing is a lot like balancing on a tight-rope. Lean away from your center and you fall. Because I know who I am, I can lock onto a foundation that I believe gives me insight into the how's and why's of people's lives.
I do not desire to write books that titillate but I do believe in romance. I also love the idea of mysteries unfolding as secrets are exposed.
My books do not contain cursing either but to maintain a truer sounding account of some conversations, I will resort to putting a blank just to show a curse word was used by the character. Those blanks can be brushed over and the reader gets the idea.
It's important to me to leave a legacy of books behind that I would be proud for my children and family to read. However, there are several writers out there who have the same name as me, even with the same middle initial who publish the kind of things I never would. So, I've begun to include my maiden name, "Stokes," in my books to keep anyone from ever mistaking a book that contains vulgarity or things like tarot card reading as being a part of my work.
You can also know for certain if something is mine if you go to my author page. Only books I have published link to my page. Another author cannot link to it because it is created by Amazon and Amazon is the one who adds my books to their "Author Central." Also, you can go to my website and look at the books I have published there.
I'd love to give you a free sample of my writing. I offer "Threads of Regret," as a free download on my website. It's approximately 60 pages long and is the prequel to "Lovely Strings," a 400 page novel that contains mystery, romance and the story of seven women stranded in a cabin in the Appalachian woods.
I'd love to welcome you to my website too which contains free chapters of my novels, a blog I keep and a contact page where you can leave a comment.
