Just Pure Genius,
By Jared Hobbs "Music Critic" (Riverside, Ca.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Lover & The Beloved (Audio CD)
Donna De Lory - a vocal talent not to be messed with. She is constantly keeping fans on edge and testing her chops on new styles and vocal abilities. She takes us from "Bliss" to the meditation styles on "Lover & The Beloved", showing us that no matter what the style of music, it can affect you in a way that nothing else can. This record is various chants and mantras, used primarily in yoga practices. Myself, not knowing anything yoga, was put in a relaxed, care feee mood when I first heard this. The vocals are soothing and the mantras, will help ease the problems and fears you have and put you in a place where you can be at one with the world. This is a must have record.

Just love it!,

A lovely album. Donna brings a sense of creativity, melody and bkathi (devotion) to each of the songs. It starts with a catchy Ganapathi OM, continuing with the same catchiness with Om Namah Shivaya. He Ma Durga brings out the delicacy of her voice. I loved Govinda Jaya Jaya, which is ideal for a group chant that brings a lot of energy into the singing.
I found all the songs to be melodious. The lyrics are simple for anyone to remember easily. The tune is catchy and lingers on after listening. There is a nice blend of western and Indian instruments providing soothing background music. As in many Indian songs/chants, you will find repetition within each song, which is a nice thing. You probably will not notice it as it encourages you to remember the tune/song much easily. I use this album in my Yoga classes regularly and come away humming for a long time. Just love it!

Donna's brilliant versatility present on new CD,

Donna De Lory -- words cannot express the varied talent this beautiful woman possesses. Donna has proven herself a superstar with the release of "The Lover & The Beloved", moving beyond the pop goodness of her first album, and the dance sensations of her later releases. Her verstality is evident in the this new disc, full of Sanskrit hymns coupled with harmonious beats. TL&TB is perfect for yoga class, periods of deep relaxion, or even if you want to clean your house! Donna's soothing voice coupled with the beauty of Sanskrit is an intoxicating blend of joy, so much that the CD has played in my car, my bedroom, my office, and my gym....For those concerned about the language issue, I urge you to listen to the sounds clips and experience for yourelf the artistic endeavor Donna has been gracious enough to give to us. You won't regret it. try "Samba Sadashiva", it's a personal favourite of mine! Toronto loves you Donna....we can't wait to see you again!

I bought this album randomly, & absolutely love it> I play it non stop in my home as well as during my yoga classes. It really lifts you up, and is wonderful to sing alon with. I was raving about it to friends when I heard that Donna would be in South Beach, at a yoga center to lead the savasana and meditation. Eagerly I attended & felt blessed to participate in the devotional chanting. Donna has a beautiful spirit, in person she is a shining light of devotion, and her passion is accurately captured on this cd. The addition of groovy percussion makes this a real winner.

brilliant masterpiece,
By MeOnlyMe (Czech Republic) - See all my reviews

This album is a brilliant masterpiece. Extremely uncommon music, farly outrunning the present. A listener is experiencing a deep feeling of being, also as each piece here, so long, is being changed several times in movement and style. At this web page the short mp3 shows are only presented in one such a style and movement, more torrential but less oriental. The most varied piece is the last seventh: Govinda Jaya Jaya (Mac Quayle Mix). And what's more, the box for the CD is not the traditional plastic, but it is made quite else and I do not mean to disclose, how. For me it was an eye-opener and I wish you the same excitment. It is no lesser masterpiece than the music itself. So I recommend this album to everybody and thank the authors very much for this great experience. You're real masters.

Wow she did it again,

Some of the chants on the album you may have heard before if you have every seen Donna live, the album truly make you understand why Donna is such a great musician. The Voice, the band and the sound they create are just incredible. After listening to Donna last studio release's 'Bliss' and 'In the Glow' I did not believe that it could get any better and again she proved us wrong....This album should be in every great collection, but I guess because you are reading this review you have good taste anyway. God Bless Donna and her band and we cannot wait to see her here in Europe where she belongs - On the Stage Chris

Such a tranquil album! I am very new to Kirtan and Donna's voice on this album just took my breath away. She gives a crystalline, delicate beauty to the songs and her love for them shines through and affects you.
My ultimate favorite song on this CD is He Ma Durga. Especially the last 4 minutes of it, when she and her group go into an entrancing harmony. I only wish it would've lasted longer. It inspires a state of blissful serene ecstasy. Something tells me, THAT is what Kirtan is supposed to do!:)
