Alexander O'Neal in the House,
By
This review is from: Lovers Again (Audio CD)
1996, 5 years after the chart topping "All True Man" album, 3 years after the dissapointment of the "Love Makes No Sense" album, Alexander O'Neal is back with his Fifth proper album. And he does not dissapoint. Most people know him from the days of the song "Criticize" and when he sold out 8 consecutive nights at wembley. This album was his lastest set in 1996. Track 1 Track 2 Track 3 Track 4 Track 5 Track 6 Track 7 Like track six alex mixes his funk soul style with lyrics to melt most girls hearts. Track 8 Track 9 Track 10 Track 11 Track 12 Track 13 Overall

"Good, but not great",
By Leon J Otness (Minnesota, U.S.A.) - See all my reviews

This latest Alexander O'Neal work is a solid release by an artist with a fantastic voice. It can't measure up to the blockbuster "Hearsay" release from 1987 (but how many albums could?) This cd promotes the softer ballad and mid-tempo range of Alex, outside of the faster and funkier opening song "Do You Right". This is the type of cd you can put in your player and enjoy every song. There may not be any standout smash hits, but there are no "dogs" you would want to hit the skip button on either. If you are a true Alex fan you will want to pick this title up. The Japanese release includes two extra bonus tracks not on the U.S. release. "If We Get It On" and "Cry" are both nice additons.

"why waste that talent",
By A Customer

The Brits just can't cut it for Alex. He needs to come back to the US with Jam & Lewis where they originated "original" songs for him. It "makes no sense" in his remaining in the UK -- wasting his time and talent (and depriving his many fans). Come on back home Alex and record some real music.

I purchased this cd because I miss Alexander O'Neal, and I'm annoyed that I can no longer get the All True Man cd. (Mine was stolen during a move) Anyway, I purchased this one but it does not make the grade. Alex, Jam and Lewis need to make amends or do whatever is necessary to bring this talent back. He was to make a severe mark on the industry when the NY Times wrote an outstanding write for his work on the All True Man cd. Jam and Lewis was onto something but whatever the situation was, they let him go. Hey Amazon, why don't you try and get this cd for us?

This was not Alexander O'Neal's best or most ambitious album but it was much better than most of the R&B CDs of its time. The various producers he worked with gave him some first-rate material and he superbly covers everything from hard-hitting funk to sexy and seductive Quiet Storm ballads. All in all, "Lovers Again" is not O'Neal's most prolific album but (still) no fan of his should pass it up, either.
