This review is from: Lovers Fighters Sinners Saints (Audio CD)
I got into Odd Project late 2006/early 2007. I had heard of them and a song or to before then by my best friend but I never got into them until then. I had pretty much listened to 'The Second Hand Stopped' atleast 30 times within 4 months. Then I discovered the demos. I loved them even more, especially the October 2002 Demo, which contains one of my all time favorite songs, Je T'adore. I loved them so much. When I heard that there was going to be a lineup change when they had announced the original vocalist I thought to myself "Ok, maybe they wont be that bad". I was so excited when the cd got released. I got it, and listened to it and literally said "Wow. What the hell is this". They had completely changed styles. Nothing really was the same at all. They changed from metalcore to basically just post-hardcore, and I did not welcome that change at all. If I was writing this review 2 years ago right after I listened, you better believe I would have given it 1 star. I really only truly liked 2 songs, the acoustic Silver Screen Lovers, and Never Doin So Good but Lookin Good Doin it. But not even Odd Project, no matter how much I despised this, deserved that, so I just bottled my hatred up inside. Flash forward 2 years later (around maybe late august this year), I never picked it up to listen to again really, except for the acoustic version of silver screen lovers. But a couple of months ago I decided to have another listen. Much to my surprise, I really liked it. Yeah, they are still different. Very different, but I still like it. I guess when I had listened to it the first time I was just expecting the Odd Project I loved, their same style. Breakneck S.O.S is one of my favorite songs on the album, and still including the previous 2 songs I had mentioned. I may not know ever word by heart of the album as I do with their demos/first studio cd.If anyone listened to Odd Project's old stuff and not this, do not expect the same style. You will be disappointed, like I was. Listen to this with an open mind to a new style and judge for yourself whether or not you like it. I would not recommend this as a first cd for a beginning Odd Project listener. If you want a good first listen, check out their October 2002 Demo, or possibly their July 2003 Demo. If you can not get ahold of either, I would just recommend The Second Hand Stopped. |
