It Is Not Always What It Seems, April 10, 2009
This review is from: Lovers & Liars (Paperback)
In Lovers & Liars by Teri Denine, R & B Superstar Journey Mason searchs for a fulfilling life. To outsiders, it seems that she has everything she could want. All she really wants is love from her husband, Christopher. And he is a real piece of work. He wants nothing more but the money and power that comes with the life that Journey produces. He is controlling and abusive. On top of all of that, her career is being challenged by young, up-and-coming artists and she is no longer on top. You would think her best friend, Jada, would be able to comfort her during this time. But she is just as hungry for the money as Journey's trifling husband. Or, maybe she could depend on her sister, Trish. But she is a crack addict and only out for that next hit. In a split decision, Journey decides that she needs to get away and regroup. She and her bodyguard, Woody, take off to Paris. She is able to relax and enjoy the regular things of life. No one knows her overseas and all is well. She encounters a French man that sweeps her off her feet. Their whirlwind romance leaves Journey confused. Unsure of where her life is headed, she decides it is time to go back to her real world and face the music. An unsuspecting accident abruptly changes Journey's life and everyone around her. Denine creates a cast of powerful characters against the backdrop of the entertainment world. One minute it was crazy Christopher and his unbelievable controlling ways. The next it was Jada stopping at nothing to get some money in her pocket. Thank goodness there was some sanity in Johnathan. Even though, he too, had times you wanted to slap the taste out of his mouth. The lengths people will go to for money is unreal. It definitely had me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. Fast paced and full of great characters, LOVERS & LIARS is a must read. Reveiwed by Donnica Copeland APOOO BookClub Sista Talk Book Club

In the land of fairytales..., March 19, 2009
This review is from: Lovers & Liars (Paperback)
"I wish I may, I wish I might, abort all these dragons, and find an honorable man, my true knight." Superstar songstress Journey is tired of fighting to retain her crown as an R&B sensation, fighting her whoring husband yet demanding manager Christopher, and tired of the rat race lifestyle that's draining the life out of her. On an impulse, Journey flees her frustrations and takes her bodyguard with her to Paris. While being incognito, she relaxes and basks in the normalcy she has in this newfound safe haven. While at home, Christopher aimlessly seeks clues to her whereabouts. Mentally exhausted, filled with doubt, and unsure of her hopes and dreams, Journey finds enjoyment in a newfound freedom with a sexy, seemingly, unassuming man. Lovers and Liars is a tale of another dissatisfied celebrity and the antics she faces on a daily basis as she attempts to find peace of mind. The storyline touches on the tedious, yet draining schedule that entertainers endure with the many pitfalls incurred with management, paparazzi, and the grueling competition in trying to fulfill the consumers wants. Even though there are no overpowering emotions nor any memorable or charismatic characters, Lovers And Liars is still a solid read. Reviewed by Tazzyt2bossye for Urban Reviews

A Great Journey, December 10, 2011
The Multiplatinum R&B singer Journey has fulfilled her dream of becoming a singing sensation. Journey can to realize that being in the lime light is not easy. Being a singer can be very demanding, but it comes with the territory of being famous. Journey's career becomes more than she can handle. Her abusive husband/manager, Christopher forbids Journey from doing certain things. Journey decides to take a trip to Paris to be free. While in Paris she meets a young man name Jonathan. Journey finds true love with Jonathan while in Paris for a short time. Journey decides to go back home to face up to her husband and things change when arriving back to the States. I truly enjoyed this book because there were many different twists to the story........
