4.0 out of 5 stars What a romantic deck!, April 5, 2005
This review is from: The Lover's Path Tarot Set (Paperback)
I have been a professional tarot reader for over the last 10 years, I have seen and used hundreds of decks and I have to say this one is gorgeous! The artistry depicted on the cards will overwhelm you with it's dreamlike visuals and romantic colors that blend so beautifully together. The deck reads very nicely, and I was happily surprised to see that the book that comes with the deck is also full of beautiful glossy photos of all the cards, as well as full descriptions of all the myths explaining the symbolism portayed on the cards and giving the reader some great insight into famous romantic historical couples and their cooresponding legends.

This is a very well put together package, well worth the money for any lover of tarot cards or historical couples in folklore/mythology.

It was nice to see couples from many different cultures portrayed in the deck as well...such as Cleopatra and Ceasar, Arthur and Guenivere, Romeo and Juliette, Danae and Zeus, Cupid and psyche...etc, etc. Although the cultures, myths and plays were all mixed together, this deck has a very nice flow to it and nothing really seems out of place visually or with it's reading accuracy.

Having said all these praises of it...I will say that there was one thing that irked me on a very small level about the deck (which is what kept it from being 5 stars in my rating choice)...The creator of the deck did not seperate the greek and roman gods/goddesses. On some cards she dipics greek gods with roman goddesses instead of their greek counterpart. I understand that not all of the myths translate over into both cultures and she most likely thought to mesh them together for convenience sake, but I am a bit of a perfectionist and can't help but cringe when I think that in no book of mythology were a god and goddess (one greek, one roman) ever coupled.

The stunning visuals on this deck and the divine packaging (complete with a love scroll layout) make this one tiny problem in the deck worth overlooking in my opinion, unless you happen to be a scholar of mythology, in which case it will drive you mad.

Basically, I say...awesome deck *thumbs up*....hightly recomended!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you thought you were going to like it, still you'll be surprised., November 23, 2005

Ramautet "Ramautet" (Cagliari, Italy / San Juan, PR USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Lover's Path Tarot Set (Paperback)
As soon as I received the Lover's Path Set I knew I had done the right thing. I expected an high quality product, but I hadn't imagined it would be so sumptuous. The elegant burgundy box has a Velcro strap closure and encloses the card reference book: a glossy, all-colour companion which will explain the tale behind each card, along with the used symbolism, the common meaning, and the omnipresent keywords. A section of the book features 7 spreads to use with the deck and a quick card reference guide. Sealed with a wine ribbon is the spread scroll, which contains the spreads you find also in the book. After drooled over the book and accessories, let's take a look to the cards. The size is a little wider than usual tarot (about 3½" by 4¾") and they are printed in a good matte stock. The rich frame around the picture carries again burgundy and gold tones, and the very drawings follow a Pre-Raphaelite style, which I'm absolutely crazy about. Historical, literary, and legendary couples are portrait in the cards, loosely playing according a Rider-Waite script. Unless you have a solid and varied knowledge of myth and literature (and even so), you surely will take good advantage from reading the companion book. This will help beginners to restore their Rider-Waite references, and will be also useful to expert readers for understanding the feeling of this deck and consulting it for love and relationship matters. If you are a collector, instead, you surely don't want to miss this piece of art, which is a real feast for your eyes.
This is one of those times when it is mandatory to buy the boxset.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Winner from Waldherr, September 19, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Lover's Path Tarot Set (Paperback)
I've been a fan of Waldherr since The Book of Goddesses, have all of her books and several of her prints, and eagerly awaited this deck though I did not believe I could possibly appreciate it as much as her Goddess Tarot. I was wrong; the artwork is gorgeous, the interpretation of the traditional images/archetypes is fresh and thought-provoking without straying too far to be recognizable, and the package is beautifully put together.
