A great love story,
By Anne (France) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Lovers (Thorndike Large Print Basic Series) (Paperback)
I just love this book. It is a mixture of suspense and romance that made impossible for me to stop reading it. The story takes place in post-war Mediterranean and talks about this handsome young australian who goes to Europe looking for some adventure before he starts his career in law. But he found more than adventures, he found a lovely young italian princess who was engaged to be marry to this rich american who joined the Bride's family to make some investments in the Med- islands. Although they fall in love, she is pressured to marry this man for his influence in the Catholic Church and his money. Now, she has to choose between the love of her life and the duty to please her family.

A cruise to nowhere,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Lovers (Paperback)
After reading the professional reviews above, I'm wondering if I read the same book. They - and the cover of my book - talk about the lovers being reunited by a "deadly secret." There is no deadly secret. There isn't a moment of suspense in this book. The only mystery is what these two people saw in each other because West never creates any kind of chemistry between them. Tom Clancy writes better love scenes! As for the international intrigue, it also never plays out. It's as if West was afraid to bring any part of this book to life. Everything is muted until you just don't care any more.

Cavanagh is a character that can make women dream, an attractive, efficient and adventurous ex-Navy man.It is very interesting to read about all the situations an all the characters he faces during the summer he works as a second officer of a private luxury ship. Morris West is a great novelist who knows how to catch the reader's attention with his wit, shrewdness and knowledge of people's relationships. He also takes the reader on a trip through the sunny Mediterranean and its ports in the 1950s. Highly recommended! |
