So beautiful,
By julia (europe) - See all my reviews
This review is from: For Lovers (Audio CD)
This song is so beautiful, I have no words to describe how truly charming it is. The piano notes add a certain romantic quality to it and the drum beat is so chilled, yet so extravagant. Add that to Peter Doherty's sexy "bedroom-voice" and you get an amazing collaboration. For Lovers has all the elements to make you want to cry, smile and sing along. Listening to Pete belt out "This is for lovers....running away" you really do feel like you're in love and can't help but imagine yourself wrapped up in the arms of a loved one.
If you own this, I can bet you that you'll be playing it on repeat for days on end.

Pure romance,

From the gorgeous piano notes which open up this lilting ballad, and right into the swaying, lightly soaring chorus, this song will make you want to fall in love with somebody. It is romantic and melancholic without being sappy or schmaltzy-due to the tasteful arrangements and muscianship and Pete Doherty's slightly raspy, subtly sex-kittenish vocals.
Doherty pulls you in from the opening line "I'm running away with you, that's all I ever do". If you listen, you will hear the quiet conviction in his voice, and that conviction, coupled with the sheer melodic beauty of the song is enough to make you want to cry. The song has an almost atmospheric, dreamlike quality to it, and its very addictive, so when you hear it, be prepared to listen to it for days.

Plenty has been written about Pete and his exploits. Even the other comments here reflect enough of that. If you know his music you already know this is crucial, if you don't you owe it to yourself to see what the fuss is all about. Likely the most important UK artist of the 2000''s. Great stuff

set it to 'repeat track',
This review is from: For Lovers (Audio CD)
truly beautiful. i'll never forget listening to its british radio debut over the internet. it was thrilling and it still is, every time i hear it. it's simply an astonishingly beautiful song. the video is also quite nice, if you happen to catch it. some assumed that peter doherty wrote this song about ex-bandmate carl barat, but wolfman actually penned this one. extremely well done. one might even say perfect, particularly when it comes to doherty's vocals. in my opinion, the piano is as well.
the b-side, man who came to stay, is a familiar favorite to fans of doherty and the many incarnations of babyshambles over the last couple of years. it is also haunting though in a very different way. i'd recommmend listening to for lovers on repeat for a day or two, then doing the same with man who came to stay. achingly lovely.

I am not used to reviewing singles. I have a big stack of them next to me. I never wrote a word about any of these. It was just an indication of what is to come. But this is a single by Peter Doherty. He is a one-man movement in music. Doherty has done two albums with The Libertines. He has formed another band called Babyshambles. Everything he has done has become gold. Wolfman "For Lovers" is another big single for him. It's more like the easy listening of the first Richard Ashcroft solo album. It is piano driven with background strings, which could never really have been on a Libertines record. There is something tragic sounding about "For Lovers." On the other hand, "Back From The Dead" sounds like it could have been on the last Libertines album entirely. Even Carl Barat is playing on this track. Doherty wears several hats and it becomes confusing. I saw a picture of him kissing Elton John recently. If Doherty died today, no one would be surprised. Elton John could do a song "Candle In The Wind" about him. Hopefully he can release a few more records, whatever the moniker, whatever his beef with Barat, whatever his drug addictions and police record, before he calls it quits on this life.

Music and love,

I knew very well what I was buying as I had heard the song "For Lovers" many times before. I totally enjoy it - an excellent combination of melody, lyrics and voice of the singer Pete Doherty. The product also includes a video of the song which is just great. Simple, but very beautiful. I would highly recommend the product to anyone who has ever been in love or is at the moment - it means that pretty much to everyone :)

This proves that rock can expand to romantic ballad of love. None better than Pete to do this of course. The lyrical value of this song is unique and bold. Simply cause one can point the finger at Pete over The Libertines does not allow us to dismay such talent. Personally, this is my favorite song from Pete to this date.

Singing a straight-away love song without sounding like an idiot isn't a particularly easy task- everyone at home, go ahead and give it a try- but this is a beauty. Simple yet subtle, and dreamy-as-hell, the wistful lyrics are pitched on Doherty's impeccable phrasing. The droning, ambient guitar in the lengthy outro mirrors perfectly the lyrical imagery and creates a sense of desire and longing to be 'running away'. Good stuff.

I bought this one the strength of the Amazon reviews. Well, Pete let me down, once again. I at least expected "Down in Albion"-lite, but this single doesn't even get close to that.
