Book Description

Love was the magnet that first brought Jeni and Randy Clark together in high school. It was also the bedrock of their perfect marriage a few years later when the two of them began to build their separate careers: Jeni as a real estate associate, Randy as a fireman trainee. Both believed their idyllic life would last forever--until an arsonist entered the picture and began setting what appeared to be random fires everywhere. Randy, however, didn't believe the fires were random at all. In fact, he was soon convinced that the arsonist was after him! That's when their perfect marriage started to fall apart.

2.0 out of 5 stars not what it appears to be June 3, 2011

When I saw the title and cover picture and read the blurb, I thought this was going to be an old fashion "bodice ripper" romance. I think that's because Harlequin did a series with similar titles years ago. Harlequin-type romances aren't usually my thing but it was free so I thought I would give it a look. Turns out it's more of a thriller than a romance novel. It does have a love story but there isn't any "explosive" sex, as stated in the book description. Sex is mentioned but that's it. Okay by me but if you're looking for a romance novel with steamy sex scenes you're in the wrong place.

As a thriller, it's okay. Not great but readable and quick. It's from the point of view of a fireman's wife, his high school sweetheart. He becomes distant as he has to work more and more because of a series of arsons. Then he becomes convinced that the arsonist is after him. There's a surprise twist but it comes out of nowhere. I would have liked more depth, suspense, and character development to build up to the ending.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not at all what I expected June 4, 2011

The cover, title and blurb led me to believe this was going to be a true romance with an HEA. Unfortunately, there was very, very little romance and nothing in the way of what I would consider an HEA. This book left a depressing, bitter taste in my mouth. It would be nearly impossible to give a summary without spoiling it, so I wont do that here. I wouldnt recommend this book, but since its a freebie, it may give you a taste for the author's writing style.

1.0 out of 5 stars HEA - Not! June 4, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you are hoping for a HEA hot romance look elsewhere. Not at all what I was expecting or was somewhat led to believe in the product description. I am glad it was a freebie because the only thing wasted was my time.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT a Romance and NO HEA June 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It reads like a short story from a True Confession Crime Magazine told in first person. Not romantic at all even though it's a story about a the wife of a fireman and the changes in his behavior during their marriage. It's not well written, the story pedestrian and the story telling style poor.

This should never have been listed in the Romance Genre--- it's fiction, maybe even mystery.
