Give me a break! This book was really fictitious. I could not beleive half of the things the characters were saying or their actions. I appreciate the lessons of Kwanza and giving me an understanding of how to incorporate this holiday into my own family but I think more time should have been put in character development than the push to get us all to celebrate Kwanza.

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy Kwanza!!, November 9, 1998

This review is from: Love's Celebration (Paperback)
Beautiful novel about love, family, and holiday tradition. This novel was very creative and some of the quotes incorporated within the novel were very inspirational. Teddi loved her husband and her family so much she risked her own life to win back the life she missed two years of. Although, I was sort of put off by some of the unrealistic plots in this book it was still very good. For instance, the Feds actually letting J.T. go without any other complications to hinder him in returning to hsi family. J.T.'s disapperance for two years from his wife and his child's life was upsetting to me as well. In my opinion, Teddi took his homecoming in stride. In other words, it wasn't that chaotic or emotional as I expected. Especially, if the person you love disappears out of your life for two years and suddenly reappears. Eddie, Teddi sister seemed a little to desperate to get Cecil under her claws. Neverhteless, the book deserved a 4 star rating because of the underlying message and the love the emanated from the characters. I loved the recipes and the defintions of the 7 days celebrating the Kwanza Holiday!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A very complete love story with intrigue and resolution, June 2, 2000
This review is from: Love's Celebration (Paperback)
In reading this book, I was very pleased with the way the story kept my interest. Like most people, I enjoy romance novels because they have a way of transporting you to another place, time era ect. That's the main reason I especially enjoyed this reading by Monica Jackson. To me, this was a very good book and I would recommend to everyone.

Teddi Henderson has just gotten used to her life in the small town where she was raised in Kansas. After her husband's disappearance and betrayal, she has rearranged her life around her teaching career and her daughter. And then one night, J.T., her husband, the love of her life, her sould mater returns, and with him all of the pain, hurt, and memories return. J.T. ha scome to this small town to be with his wife and young daughter to celebrate the Kwanzaa season and to gain strenght, spirituality and renewal from his favorite holiday. After Teddi's intial shock, J.T. explains that he had been working as an undercover government agent using his computer firm as a front. His partner had come upon some damaging information and was killed. The people who had killed his partner had threatened J.T. and his family. He now betgs Teddi to let him spend Kwanazz with his family and then find out why his life was turned upside down. While i found the story line a bit os a stretch and Teddi and her family much too forgiving, the holiday celebration and principles of Kwanzaa more than made up for the bizarre situation.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible, April 18, 1999

This review is from: Love's Celebration (Paperback)
I did not like this book whatsoever. The story focused on lies and deception in marriage. The characters, J.T. and Teddi, were supposedly happily married, one day Teddi's life is turned upside down when her loving husband disappears for 2 years. Upon his return, she learns he'd lied to her about his job. Throughout the rest of the book Teddi's character comes across as a sniveling needy spouse. Whenever J.T. wants to leave, so he can clear his name and come back so they can be a family again, Teddi's character acts like a mindless woman (a sterotype we need to get away from). The final straw was what Teddi did to her husband in the motel room before leaving for New York. That not only showed a lack of realism in the story, but showed deception, her lack of true caring for her husband, trust, and faith in him.

The plot was unrealistic. J.T. tells his wife his presense in their lives could endanger their, and their daughter's, lives, yet J.T.'s, who's been in hiding for two year, carry's on in town as if he is as free as a bird. The simplest of common sense seems to have not been used by any of the characters. In sum, if these two characters represent "soul mates," then marriage is something that should be avoided at all cost.
