God Loves Me Coloring Pages (Ages 1-2) (HeartShaper Resources-Early Childhood)

I bought two of these for my 2-year-old boy/girl twins (24 months old). I'm using it to organize activities for them for the next year.

The book covers a wide range of topics that are easy for young toddlers to understand - from fruits & vegetables to Noah's ark to community helpers and more. At the end of each section, there are activity ideas. I'm picking and choosing from them. Most of the activities connect directly to the topics covered in the coloring pages, and all are age-appropriate. They will take a little preparation on my part, but not too much. Even without using the activities, the coloring book is worth it.

I also like the fact that the drawings have just the right amount of detail. Some other coloring books have so much detail that they're overwhelming for kids this age, and some have so little that the kids can't understand what's in the picture. That is NOT the case with this book. Every page has bold, uncluttered drawings that are easy for my kids to recognize. I'm really happy to see my daughter trying to color specific parts of the pictures.

My kids have very little concept of God or Jesus, and I don't think this book will be an adequate introduction by itself. I'm planning to use the Beginner's Bible for Toddlers for this purpose. But the coloring book introduces a lot of good things about the world around us. I like the fact that it starts very simple & concrete (eyes, ears, nose, mouth) and advances toward more abstract concepts at the end (singing in church, learning about Jesus, being a friend). The very back of the book has a page with Jesus on it (for using at Easter), several Nativity pages, and Noah's ark.

I would definitely recommend this for home use - and add some books and activities yourself to reinforce the topics covered! By the way, we are using Colorix silky crayons. I had to order them online, but it is SO much easier for my kids to get lots of color onto the page, and it keeps my son (a little less excited) interested in coloring.
