Book Description

April 26, 2005
A comic tale of passion—having it, losing it, and getting it back.

When Lizzie Hubbard graduated from NYU she had a Screenwriting award, a supportive boyfriend, and a bright future. Seven years later, all she has left is a sharp tongue, a bad attitude and a lousy job toiling fruitlessly as a D-Girl developing screenplays for a movie producer whose biggest hits are far in his past.

Lizzie spends her days stockpiling office supplies, stealing quickies with a Brazilian bike messenger, and waiting to collect her severance benefits. But when her boss, in a last ditch effort to save his company, assigns her a seemingly hopeless script to fix, even a D- Girl as jaded as Lizzie can’t resist the challenge to turn an amateur screenwriter into a player.

The Loves of a D-Girl proves that second acts in love and work are definitely possible, but they can be very, very tricky to pull off.

5.0 out of 5 stars What makes Lizzie run?, June 26, 2006
This review is from: The Loves of a D-Girl: A Novel of Sex, Lies, and Script Development (Mass Market Paperback)
Part chick lit, part movie biz satire, this book has a clever premise, tart characters, very funny dialogue, and some comically spirited love scenes. It's a story about a cynical, burnt-out development exec who has to turn a raw, hapless, would-be screenwriter into a Hollywood "player" to win her treasured severance package. The love object is overshadowed by the secondary characters, but the plot builds to a zany climax and ends on a surprisingly sweet and satisfying note, as the dispirited heroine, Lizzie Hubbard, slowly gets her groove back. A hoot for anyone working in the movie business, and a sharp cautionary tale for anyone thinking about it.
