If you are new to Ms. Byrd, I would recommend starting with the Kappa brother series. This was a good story but it wasn't that memorable. [Summary: CJ is the main character who put a guy in the hospital by inducing his heart attack and she is overcome with guilt that she waits with him in the room where he is in coma and meets his son and they spend time together and they...

Carissa Cartel is an ice maiden waiting for the fire to thaw her frozen heart. That fire is in the form of Nathan Edwards. Carissa and Nathan's paths cross after Nathan's father, Travis Edwards, suffers a heart attack while in Carissa's office.

Carissa poses as Travis' fiance to gain access to his hospital room to seek forgiveness for her actions in what she blames as her doing. Carissa's guilt comes from not going to the bedside of her dying father, C. J. Cartel, eighteen years earlier. However, Carissa has taken on the crude business qualities of C.J. Carissa is a lonely and cold-hearted young woman.

Carissa not only has isolated her friends, but she has also isolated her employees. When her secretary, Liz, gives Carissa a dancer ballerina figurine for her birthday, Carissa is upset and cannot express her appreciation for the gift. It is not because Carissa does not like the gift, but because the figurine reminds Carissa of what she gave up earlier in order to please her father. Carissa wanted to be a dancer, but instead, chose the life that was similar to her father.

While Nathan is awaiting for his father's recovery, Nathan and Carissa spend a lot of time together. Nathan assumes Carissa is his father's fiance' and Carissa has assumed another name because she is unable to admit her role in Nathan's father's illness. It is during this time, that Carissa's and Nathan's feelings develop into something stronger -- love. Both have been hurt by others in their lives and are hesitant to reach out and enjoy what life is offering them. Also, there is Carissa's secret that she is hiding and has a hard time admitting to Nathan. However, with all secrets, nothing actually stays hidden forever. Carissa has some tough decisions to make, but will the decisions be made in time? Will the decisions be worth the emotional turmoil she and Nathan endure?

Congratulations, Ms. Byrd. This is another winner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful, October 17, 2000
This review is from: Love's Deception (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
After the death of her father Carissa Cartel has become the CEO and President of his company. She also has become just like him in the business world, ruthless and cold.

In the works to complete a hostile takeover of Edwards Electornics, Carissa is surprise when the president of the company comes to her office. She is also surprise when after their heated agrument he has a stroke and goes into a coma.

Struggling with the thought of how she did her father when he was on his sick bed. Carissa strives to do right by visiting Travis Edwards until she meets his son Nathan.

Nathan has not had a good relationship with his father because his father left him and his mother when he was a boy. Believing that his father doesn't care for him, Nathan doesn't know why he evens bothers to go to the hospital.

When he arrives he meets Carissa which he is told is the fiancee' of his father. Their relationship starts of bad. But as they get to know one another they are able to help heal old wounds. Although there is one main secret between them they fall in love with one another.

I really love this book, there was so much suspense and love. You may get impatient with waiting for the truth to be revealed(I did). But it was well worth the wait. All die hard romance readers will love this book. The secondary characters help bring everything together.

I really enjoyed this book. It had me rolling! All the character were great. But the book seemed to me that it was being rused a little at the end, boy was that end great! I hope we hear bout the wonderfully delightful characters in future books by Byrd, so go get a copy!

This is a well written book, that is hard to put down. The characters are well developed, and the story line makes you want to find out what next.

If you are new to Ms. Byrd, I would recommend starting with the Kappa brother series. This was a good story but it wasn't that memorable. [Summary: CJ is the main character who put a guy in the hospital by inducing his heart attack and she is overcome with guilt that she waits with him in the room where he is in coma and meets his son and they spend time together and they fall in love and then he finds out that it's her fault that his father is in coma]. I liked CJ but I am not sure I was really feeling the heat between her and Nathan. However, it was a cute romantic story and you will end up smiling at the end of it. I recommend it if you are looking for a filler book to spend a Sunday night on the couch with.

5.0 out of 5 stars So romantic!, January 24, 2011
I really liked this book. Actually I loved it. I loved how Nathan and Carissa connected. They both came from places were guilt and bitterness held them somewhat captive. It was nice to see how they were able to work past issues. Carissa really helped Nathan open up and at least seek another chance with his father and he in turn helped her live. To let her hair down so to speak. I also loved when her Aunt left her at the restaurant. That was comedy. I did laugh out loud on some parts too. I would also like to see a story about Liz finding her true love. Very good job Ardianne Byrd!

2.0 out of 5 stars no, May 26, 2010
I didn't care for it. I love Mrs. Bryd's books but to me this one was lacking to me. It was slow paced and redundant. We crossed the same road eight different times and everything was too dramatic. I don't know. I just couldn't connect with anyone in the book. I liked Helena a little. I would have liked to know more about Liz. I was just disappointed...
