Love's Enduring Promise,
By
This review is from: Love's Enduring Promise (Love Comes Softly Series #2) (Paperback)
Love Comes Softly, the first book in the series, left us with Marty finally realizing how much Clark means to her. This book picks up a few months later with Marty secure in her role as Clark's "better half", and expecting their first child. The book covers about 13 years in under 300 pages. Marty finds the courage to reach out a helping hand to her neighbors in need, even as her responsibilities at home increase with each new addition to their family. It was refreshing to see the love and care that thrived in a community of believers. The Larson girls - Nandry and Clae - come to live with the Davises when their mother dies. Tommy Grahm comes to Marty for advise about an Indian girl he is pretty sure his parents would not approve of. Marty makes sure she is there when Wanda Marshal's baby arrives. A teacher, and later a preacher, come to the town. Yeah, there are a lot of sub plots, and really no main plot. This is a bed time story book; something to read a little of every night, and glean something good to think about from. I like this book pretty well, but there are some things I find rather annoying. For example, Ms Oke has an odd tendancy to name girls masculine names, and boys feminine names. I mean, Clae is a girl, and Clare is a boy, when it would sound more naturual the other way around. Kinda funny. Also, there were so few conversations between the main charactors. Only two or three heart-to-hearts between Clark and Marty, and only ONE recorded conersation between Nandry and Clae! There really ought to have been two books written to cover so many years, but, for what it is, it's really good. Watch the movie, too. It does a much better job with Missie and Willie's romance.

How they cotinued the book from when Missy was young to the day she got married. as soon as I get the chance I am going to read the rest of the book. Once you start reading these books it is very hard to put them down.. I would recomend these book to anyone who wants to read a great book..

This review is from: Love's Enduring Promise (Love Comes Softly Series #2) (Paperback)
This is an excelent companion to "Love Comes Softly". It is the second in the series and an excellent read. I found it hard to put down. Janette Oke is a wonderful writer and can keep you so involved with the story that you hate for it to end.
