Beautifully written, uplifting story of redemption., August 11, 2011
This review is from: Love's Full Circle (Serenade/Serenata) (Paperback)
From the back of the book:
"Julie Kreel has almost everything- a plum of a job, caring friends, a supportive church family, a handsome colleague who wants to be more than friends. But her bitter past with Paul Shannon rises often to mar her prospects for future happiness. And when her ex-husband reappears unexpectedly, their former life binds them together like string around a packet of old love letters. Can she, however, ever forget the pain he has caused her?"
This is a slim, older romance that reads surprisingly fresh and relatable, even to today's standards. Luckily, the author wisely avoided brand names or other time stamping tropes- so it feels like it could easily be a modern day contemporary romance.
This is a beautiful and uplifting story. It's told from a current perspective with the history of the hero and heroine explained through poignant and absorbing flashbacks. I came to love the romance between Julie and Paul and I wanted them to work it out. Julie's pain at Paul's betrayal is authentic and understandable. But his betrayal becomes understandable in the context of their youth, immaturity and life pressure at the time.
Watching Paul and Julie grow makes for a wonderful story! This is also a Christian romance, so there's plenty of references to God but I never felt it was over the top or took away from the story. It actually works within the story to make it a stronger read. And for this type of romance, the book still felt pretty "steamy" with lots of kissing, lovemaking, passion and intensity.
This is one to add to your library if you can get your hands on it- as it's out of print and a limited find.
