Book Description

October 26, 2004

An exceptional new author opens a revealing window into the male African American psyche in this captivating first novel about sex, relationships, marriage, and monogamy.

Harold L. Turley II makes a sparkling debut with this hip, sexy tale of three men who learn that the life of a player isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Terry, Jeff, and Tyrelle manage a nightclub together, where the three cousins have their pick of any woman they desire. Terry is a former college basketball star married to Tracy -- and cheating on her with Angie. But meaningless affairs are starting to leave Terry feeling hollow inside. He decides it's time to clean up his act...only to discover that it's too late. A lifetime player, Jeff has finally realized that he's ready to settle down with his current girlfriend. The problem is, he's feeling guilty about all the times he was unfaithful to her. Clearing his conscience would give him a clean slate, but will it cost him the most important relationship in his life? As for Ty, he's caught between a rock and a hard place: he loves his freedom but at the same time doesn't want to lose his girlfriend. And his lover is about to drop a bombshell that will reverberate across every area of his life.

Funny, sensuous, and dead-on target when it comes to the games lovers play, Love's Game tells what happens when the tables are turned and the stakes are raised.

4.0 out of 5 stars What's done in the dark...., May 27, 2005
This review is from: Love's Game (Paperback)
Every dog has its day. And that day is coming sooner than later for some. Cousins Terry, Tyrelle and Jeff want for nothing when it comes to female "companionship." As the owners of a hot nightclub, they have women lined up (literally) to get at them. Every man's dream, right? Or maybe their girlfriends/wives nightmare.

Terry, the oldest of the three, has creeping down to a fine art. A skill that he has instilled in his two younger cousins from an early age. He's married to Tracy, a woman that has stood by his side despite his many many transgressions. But a woman can only take so much. Will it be too late for Terry and Tracy when he finally realizes that she's the only one for him?

Tyrelle looks ups to his cousin Terry. He's following closely in his footsteps. Even though he has a beautiful and smart girlfriend of several years, he can't seem to keep his pants zipped. Deciding to give his all to his relationship, Tyrelle get all his ducks in a row. What happens when one "duck" gets out of line with some shocking news? Can his relationship weather the storm?

Jeff, seeing that there is only so much hoeing one man can do, wants to settle down with his lady and make it official. Does making if official mean coming clean about his womanizing past? What she doesn't know won't hurt her. Or will it? To tell or not to tell - that is the question!

Excellent debut novel. Solid story with developed likeable characters. Looking forward to more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheaters!, March 7, 2005
This review is from: Love's Game (Paperback)
In Love's Game, Mr. Turley introduces us to three playas who have never been in a monogamous relationship though they all are in committed relationships. They're dawgs and they're proud of it. They've been caught cheating by their signifant others' at least once and have sworn that they've learned a lesson and will never cheat again. But they continue to cheat on their loving and caring women. Some of these indescretions just don't make sense--Tyrell, Terry, and Jeff often place themselves and their other halves at great risk just for the hell of it.

Each Playa is taught a valuable lesson when faced with the possibility of losing the woman he's taken for granted for so long. But it may be too late to regain the necessary trust for a relationship to survive.

Kudos to my fellow Strebor author, Harold L. Turley II for giving the reader a glimpse into the heart of a man.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can A Playa Change His Ways, January 20, 2005
This review is from: Love's Game (Paperback)

Newcomer, Harold L.Turley's debut novel,Love's Game, is refreshingly entertaining. Peppered with lots of humor and a raunchy array of sex scenes, Love's Game is going to be a hit with readers. Written with a youthful exuberance, Love's Game tells a tale of what happens when playas are ready to settle down.

Jeff, Ty and Terry have been friends since the sandbox. It's only natural that they have grown up and decided to go into business together. Natural born playas, these club owners are truly enjoying the fringe benefits that come with their job.

Life has a funny way of revealing to each guy that the roads they are travelling will only hurt them in the end. With much introspection Ty, Jeff and Terry have some real lessons to learn: 1)Sometimes what you are looking for is right in front of you.
2) Being a man means that there are times you have to own up to your wrongs. But the hardest lesson these brothers will learn is that EVERY dog will have his day.

Harold Turley has done a remarkable job exploring the softer sides to a playa. Without losing the overall masculine feel, Harold reveals that men have real emotions and show them as well as women. His stab at eroticism shows the world why this talented brother is one of Zane's protegees.
