Every dog has its day. And that day is coming sooner than later for some. Cousins Terry, Tyrelle and Jeff want for nothing when it comes to female "companionship." As the owners of a hot nightclub, they have women lined up (literally) to get at them. Every man's dream, right? Or maybe their girlfriends/wives nightmare.

Terry, the oldest of the three, has creeping down to a fine art. A skill that he has instilled in his two younger cousins from an early age. He's married to Tracy, a woman that has stood by his side despite his many many transgressions. But a woman can only take so much. Will it be too late for Terry and Tracy when he finally realizes that she's the only one for him?

Tyrelle looks ups to his cousin Terry. He's following closely in his footsteps. Even though he has a beautiful and smart girlfriend of several years, he can't seem to keep his pants zipped. Deciding to give his all to his relationship, Tyrelle get all his ducks in a row. What happens when one "duck" gets out of line with some shocking news? Can his relationship weather the storm?

Jeff, seeing that there is only so much hoeing one man can do, wants to settle down with his lady and make it official. Does making if official mean coming clean about his womanizing past? What she doesn't know won't hurt her. Or will it? To tell or not to tell - that is the question!

Excellent debut novel. Solid story with developed likeable characters. Looking forward to more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheaters!, March 7, 2005
This review is from: Love's Game (Paperback)
In Love's Game, Mr. Turley introduces us to three playas who have never been in a monogamous relationship though they all are in committed relationships. They're dawgs and they're proud of it. They've been caught cheating by their signifant others' at least once and have sworn that they've learned a lesson and will never cheat again. But they continue to cheat on their loving and caring women. Some of these indescretions just don't make sense--Tyrell, Terry, and Jeff often place themselves and their other halves at great risk just for the hell of it.

Each Playa is taught a valuable lesson when faced with the possibility of losing the woman he's taken for granted for so long. But it may be too late to regain the necessary trust for a relationship to survive.

Kudos to my fellow Strebor author, Harold L. Turley II for giving the reader a glimpse into the heart of a man.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can A Playa Change His Ways, January 20, 2005
This review is from: Love's Game (Paperback)

Newcomer, Harold L.Turley's debut novel,Love's Game, is refreshingly entertaining. Peppered with lots of humor and a raunchy array of sex scenes, Love's Game is going to be a hit with readers. Written with a youthful exuberance, Love's Game tells a tale of what happens when playas are ready to settle down.

Jeff, Ty and Terry have been friends since the sandbox. It's only natural that they have grown up and decided to go into business together. Natural born playas, these club owners are truly enjoying the fringe benefits that come with their job.

Life has a funny way of revealing to each guy that the roads they are travelling will only hurt them in the end. With much introspection Ty, Jeff and Terry have some real lessons to learn: 1)Sometimes what you are looking for is right in front of you.
2) Being a man means that there are times you have to own up to your wrongs. But the hardest lesson these brothers will learn is that EVERY dog will have his day.

Harold Turley has done a remarkable job exploring the softer sides to a playa. Without losing the overall masculine feel, Harold reveals that men have real emotions and show them as well as women. His stab at eroticism shows the world why this talented brother is one of Zane's protegees.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Games That Lovers Play, February 2, 2005

This review is from: Love's Game (Paperback)
Playa', Playa' and Playa' are the words which best describe Terry, Tyrell and Jeff in Love's Game, by Harold L. Turley, II.

Terry, Tyrell and Jeff are all cousins. Other than co-owning a night club, they have one other thing in common -- they are all players. Although each have special ladies in their lives, they refuse to settle down and become one-woman men -- that is until they take a good look at how their actions affect the women in their lives. As they each decide to withdraw from the playa's game, the question becomes will they be tempted to play again?

I found this book to be an excellent read. The characters were well-developed and the plot was excellent. The characters all started out as boys playing games with the hearts of women but as the story progressed, each grew into men; determined to give the women in their lives their best.

If you're looking for a book that explores relationships and has a cast of characters that you can get into, I suggest you take a chance at Love's Game with Harold L. Turley, II.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Maturity of Men, January 13, 2005
This review is from: Love's Game (Paperback)
What is the opposite of Chick-Lit? Although I don't think a phrase has been coined for this up and coming "sub-genre", I feel that Love's Game is a primary example. Three men are coming into their own, although admittedly later than women, and this is a snapshot into their lives.

Tyrell, Jeff and Terry are lifelong friends. Owners of several nightclubs, these men seem to have their act together. Except for one thing: their obsessions for women. Terry and Jeff are cousins and up until recently Terry has been instrumental in forming Jeff's negative low opinion of women. Terry has never thought about limiting himself to one woman. He has never found it necessary to remain in a monogamous relationship, even though he's been married to Tracy for years. Jeff has had thoughts of cheating as an acceptable behavior instilled in him, and while taking these "lessons" to heart, finds he's actually capable of falling in love. Tyrell decides to cut his extra honies off and commit to his up and coming physician girlfriend and asks her to move in. This transition between romantic trysts and monogamy is the crux of Love's Game, all three men soon discover. Can all three men mature to the level where the women in their lives grow to respect and admire them?

The snapshot into the lives of these three men who struggle with issues quite common among men today gives, I would imagine, a realistic view from the man's point of view. From a woman's prospective, there doesn't seem to be much women can do to help our men through this growth process; it is truly a rite of passage some men must take. Although fictional, I can't help but wonder if glamorizing the innate sexuality of a woman negatively impacts this path towards maturity. Love's Game seemed like a realistic journey but I felt like an outsider. Maybe this book was geared toward the male reading audience more so than me and in the world of writing African American books; this is a departure from the norm. There were enthralling sports scenes thrown in, I've never read a play by play for a round of spades before. There was even a detailed description of a basketball game. I'm sure the court action would appeal to basketball enthusiasts. I commend Harold for writing a book I'm sure men will find worth the read. The next guy who asks me what book he should pick up, I'll pinch hit for Love's Game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Playa 101, November 24, 2008
By
LOVE'S GAME written by Harold L. Turley II tells the story of three male cousins, Terry, Jeff and Tyrelle, playas in the game, unwilling to pass off their playa cards. With so much on the line, is there ever a time to stop playing?

Terry, the older of the cousins, who is married with a son, has allowed many women to put his marriage asunder. Can it finally be, after years of cheating on his wife, Terry feels a twinge of guilt?

Jeff appears to be drowning in a rut with his live in girl, Chelle. Should he or shouldn't he take it to the next step? Does the next step include Jeff coming clean with Chelle about his part-time activities?

Tyrelle's the worst of the worst. While he has Jodi, a doctor, who loves him, commitment and him don't get along too well. Karma appears to be knocking on the door. Is Tyrelle ready to face the error of his ways?

I'd purchased LOVE'S GAME after reading CONFESSIONS OF A LONELY SOUL. I truly enjoyed the personalities of each character, as well as the growth. LOVE'S GAME is like the gentler side to playas. Recommend it and would read other books written by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enter the DOGG POUND at your own risk!!!!, June 14, 2006
This review is from: Love's Game (Paperback)
"Love's Game" is a very good read! Truthfully, I'd give it a 4 1/2 stars, because I can't think of one bad thing to say about it other than it being too short! But even then I'd have to deem it BITTERSWEET!

The DOGG POUND consists of cousins, SNOOP DOGGY DOG, BOW WOW-WOW, and PUPPY CHOW BOW-WOW! Terry, Terrell, and Jeff are three guys that have chased ladies skirttails all their lives and have finally come to the point where all dogs have to make a decision.

Mr. Turley has produced such a realistic story of the life of true playas, not the ballers, not the hustlers, but everyday hard working guys that have one common weakness, cheating.

Harold Turley has stepped on stage and the light is shining ever so brilliantly on him! Take your bow brotha, you did this piece of work exceptionally well! Major kudo's to you and giving you mad props for your spectacular debut! GOOD LUCK and I can't wait for your future endeavors! Blessings to you!

I truly enjoyed this novel. It has just enough drama but not too much. Ty,Terry and Jeff were cousins that work together running a club. All three are going through relationship drama like you wouldn't believe, they try to be there for each other through it all. This book will show true to life family, friendships and relationships.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can a man grow up?, February 7, 2005
This review is from: Love's Game (Paperback)
Love's Game tells us yes. It comes a time when a mean's heart rules his mind and not his little head. Mr. Turley does a wonderful job of allowing us into the minds of three men. The chracraters are realistic, the plot engrossing, and the scenes entertaining. The description on the spades game is the BEST!
