5.0 out of 5 stars downright grand
i picked up this cd at the tower records in shibuya (which is in tokyo, japan). i was shocked to find kba there- i'd never seen their albums outside of oregon before.
what can be said about the 8 minute pop song? it's a brilliant concept. the melodies are smooth, and the band has actually added the use of a chorus and of hooks. compared to 'sunlit' (which is actually...

3.0 out of 5 stars King Black Acid - 'Loves A Long Song' (Cavity Search) 3 1/2 stars
Decently good effort by this Portland 'alternative neo-psychedelic' band. Still like their 'Womb Star Session' CD better (see my review). Personally, I think it's their best work ever. Now, as for 'Loves A...', I was impressed with the title's two epics the most. The eleven-minute atmospheric "I've Heard You're Still Alive" and the twelve-minute "Gentle Collapse". Also...

i picked up this cd at the tower records in shibuya (which is in tokyo, japan). i was shocked to find kba there- i'd never seen their albums outside of oregon before.
what can be said about the 8 minute pop song? it's a brilliant concept. the melodies are smooth, and the band has actually added the use of a chorus and of hooks. compared to 'sunlit' (which is actually a better album), 'loves a long song' is a simple and easily accessible work. it also translates better to the stage; i've seen them quite a few times, and the songs from this album work perfectly live. the running times of the songs might seem kind of long, but eventually it just carries you away, and you don't notice at all that the last song is... 12 minutes long.
the only criticism i could make would be that daniel is not the top lyricist out there- however, the words fit fine with the music, which is the main selling point. when i first heard this, i thought that some of the songs could get radio play, which would lead to a wider audience for kba; although i think that their audience has expanded, it is not to the level i had hoped.

this album deserves a listen based on sheer beauty. it is gorgeous and melodic; soft, sad, and sometimes rockin'. it's just good. it's just really, really good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cosmic Journey, December 28, 2007
This review is from: Loves a Long Song (Audio CD)
This is perhaps my 3rd most favorite of the King Black Acid albumns. It was the first I bought and I loved it so much I had to have more. I won't compare them to other bands or singers. Your either a KBA person or you're not. I enjoy this music because many of the tracks are of significant length. If you like short sweet pop songs you might want to look somewhere else. If you like to take a journey into the realms of time and space then check out some of the tunes this group has created. It is a trip worth taking.

One person gives 5 Stars to Britney Spears because she is soooo talented and 1 to King Black Acid?!? , well, there you have it, anyone that compares a high caliber rock band to anything done by Britney is absolutely deaf, so read well the other comments and ignore the one that is so out of context and fairness.

Listen to the earlier albums, this guys are good, very good indeed !

For the folks my age that still wish Pink Floyd was making the kind of music they made before they peaked with their overbearing creation,"the wall", KBA is a dose of what you desire. Pink Floyd they are not. But they capture the simple beauty of albums like Animals or Wish you were here and transform it into a modern day sound both vibrant and sweet and yet with a kick. Don't call it Psychidelic Punk. It is far superior due to its professional quality, raw simplicity, and stamina. I have listened to this album at least twenty times, and yet I still find it refreshing. I could give you a monologue about the special attributes of each and every song on the album, but the best thing I can say is that this is a must have recording for any fan of well produced and written rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Extraordinary Find, November 24, 2000
This review is from: Loves a Long Song (Audio CD)
I won this CD through a contest on my college's radio station. Having never heard of KBA, I had no idea what to expect of this album. It was remarkably good. The music has a soft melodious sound to it. Its an album that one can just listen to and get a feeling of total relaxation. I recomend this to anyone who feels a need for a slight change in their musical collection.

I don't know a lot about these guys. I actually got the album from a friend who bought it and did not care for it. I gave it spin and found that I really liked it. They somewhat compare to Pink Floyd with a psychedelic edge. I am not sure that I would call this progressive rock, although it certainly flirts with the genre. Several of the tracks clock in at over 10 minutes. Overall I like this album a lot, the music is all solid. The lyrics vary in quality and the vocals are all good too. The band has several other albums out, but this is the only one I own. This band is worth checking out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Their next album might be 5 stars..., March 1, 2001

This is a fantastic album by a band still feeling around for their own sound. As it stands LOVES A LONG SONG is a great collection of psychedic-tinged art rock that takes a lot of influence from 90's bands like Mercury Rev and Air as well as past bands like early 70's Pink Floyd. These guys know how to craft songs, the arrangements are very creative, and the mix is wonderful. A definate treat for those with higher-end sound systems. This is the kind of album that a fan of almost anything would like, and I expect that by the end of this decade, King Black Acid will be known as one of the heavy-hitters in the music world. Even though they have a few albums to their credit, I believe this one is the start of something big. -Mason

Quite possibly, the worst music I have ever heard in my life. I listen to a lot of music, and am very forgiving, but this stuff is just plain aweful. And for anyone to dare and compare this band to Pink Floyd is like comparing a Cajun fried shrimp to a playful Blue Whale: There's no likeness except for the fact that they both have homes in water. This stuff is the pits. Please, do not encourage this group by buying their album. Perhaps, after a while, King Black Acid will lay of the dope and realize they have no musical talent whatsoever. Then, they can peacefully reaquaint themselves with the real world and grab hold of a 'real' job that will produce something of worth in this world. This CD is a mockery, a bad joke! To give them 5 stars is absurd. I can see giving Britney Spears five stars for her efforts because the girl has talent (even though I don't like her style of music). But to give these guys 5 is a crime...
