About the Author

Tammy Barley's roots run deep and wide across the United States. With Cherokee heritage and such ancestors as James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau, she essentially inherited her literary vocation and her preferred setting: the Wild West. An avid equestrian, Tammy has ridden horseback over western mountains and rugged trails in Arizona.

Tammy excelled in her writing studies at a local college, where she explored prose, novel writing, and nonverbal communication. She even enrolled in acting classes to master character development. In 2006, she published two series of devotionals in Beautiful Feet: Meditations for Missionary Women for the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society. She won second place in the Golden Rose Contest in the category of inspiration romance, and she serves as a judge for various fiction contests, including the Christy Awards.

In addition to writing, Tammy makes a career of editing manuscripts, ghostwriting, and mentoring other writers. She also homeschools her three children. Tammy has lived in twenty–eight towns in eight different states, but the family currently makes their home in Wonder Lake, Illinois.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love's Rescue August 29, 2009
Format:Paperback
I was pleasantly suprised to find this was not the typical Civil War era novel - complete with Southern Belle falling for the Yankee soldier ;) Rather, it feeds off the prejudices that certainly existed during the War between the States and sets the stage for a rather unique "kidnapping" that of course, can only lead to true love. Yes? Maybe.
The twists of the story including the Yankee prison camp, bring a different perspective to the era. Also the cultural "ranch hands" ranging from the twinkling Irishman to the "jaunty" Spaniard gives a bit of a twist - just enough to wish they each had their own novel in which to star.

If you're looking for a nice read on an upcoming Autumn day with a cup of cocoa ... you've found one. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful series full of love and strength! May 2, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a continuing series and definitely needs to be read in order.

I had never read a Tammy Barley book previously, but I admit, once again I am hooked by a wonderful talented author of this genre. Where this series is set during the Civil War ... it is definitely different. The storyline is definitely affected by it, as Jessica is from the South and although they have moved to the West ... her Southern accent sets many people against her and her family. Although her family does not believe in slavery, her brother, Ambrose decides he needs to go an fight for their home they left behind in Kentucky. This almost destroys Jessica as Ambrose in so many ways is her rock ... her big brother whom she adores and his leaving causes so much hurt in her family that her father disowns him. Tragedy hits this family, and Jake a friend of her father's who owns a cattle ranch is in the right place at the right time.

There are so many ups and downs ... but they seem very realistic throughout this book. The author has made Jessica a very strong-willed young woman who knows what she wants and how to get it. Jake is a man who is used to taking care of the people he cares about ... and where he definitely admires the strength he sees in Jessica this causes friction throughout their lives.

The book also has many, many other wonderful people throughout it .. that are such important parts of the books that they just would not be as strong without each of these characters and you will grow to love (most) of them.

I truly found it a delight and have to admit I was pleased that I hadn't read them at a time that I had to wait for the next one to be published ... as they seemed all the richer just to be able to read them straight through. The negative was that it was hard to put them down.

I am so looking forward to more books, in the (near, I hope) future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian historical western romance September 26, 2009
Format:Paperback
This is a wonderful book! I normally don't like westerns, but this was absolutely fascinating. Jake Bennett is the ultimate hero and this author's first book was superb! The spiritual aspect was tremendous and very well stated. The characters were so well developed it made the reader feel like they knew all them.
Every storyline in the book was just wonderful. I can't wait for the next in the series and the excerpt from the next book was fascinating and what a cliffhanger!
I'm putting Tammy Barley on my list of favorite authors.
