Retro Romance--Perfect book to bring to the beach,
By Romancefan40 (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love's Savage Embrace (Mass Market Paperback)
Read this book many years ago. It was one of my first romances--still has a nostalgic feeling for me. If you have not read a romance written earlier than the late 1980's, be warned. the style of writing popular then and now has changed a lot! Alpha males and silly everything-but the kitchen sink epic style plotting abounds. And although it might have seemed risque for the early 1980's, the sex scenes are pretty tame by today's romance standards.
With that said, it features the typical ingenue heroine whose beauty and fate takes her on a whirlwind of sexy adventuraes around the globe. London, Czarist Russia, and even the Wild West. Along the way she is seduced (or forced) into a variety of sexual encounters with various heroes who fall in love with her. There's a bit of Gothic mystery subplotted with the romance. Very light reading. The historic setting is not heavy handed. The plot twists provide for good story pacing. Keep in find, it is just a story--there will be momemnts you think the heroine is stupic, the heroes are brutish, the plot is unbelievable, etc. Take it as campy romantic fun and that's all. |
