5.0 out of 5 stars An aunt and two neices
Belinda, Clark and Marty Davis' late in life child is soft hearted, hates to see any living creature hurt or dead. Her brother Luke, now a doctor encourages her to become a nurse. He feels she has medical potential. Melissa, Belinda's neice comes from the west to finish high school and then later trains to become a school teacher. Amy Jo, Clare and Kate's daughter, who...

3.0 out of 5 stars Marty weaves most of this book's storyline....
Of the six different Janette Oke books I have read, this is probably my least favorite. The majority of the book was from Marty Davis (the mother / grandmother) viewpoint. So the storyline at times was based on her & her husband's "slowing down at their age". If the intended audience is young adult genre, I wonder how much the book would hold this audience's interest. I...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely Surprise for this Skeptic., June 3, 2006
By
Lovely to See You (Out There Somewhere) - See all my reviews
I have mostly shied away from Christian novels, especially Janette Oke's, but decided to pick this one up and give it a try. Instead of getting a preachy, dry as sandpaper story, I was surprised to get a nice, wholesome story of an incredibly warm and likable family full of strong characters and a good plotline.

I found the rivalry between the girls over the schoolteacher's son both humorous and as frustrating as Marty did, and liked the way Belinda's family subtley reached out to the Simpsons who were too proud to accept charity from any of the neighbors. My favorite characters in this book had to be Marty, Belinda, and her relationship with her older brother Luke as she learned nursing by doing. More than anything, I got Oke's unmistakable message in this book: When you want to win someone over to your beliefs, you don't ram them down their throats, but by patiently waiting as you set an example that will eventually draw them in.

He feels she has medical potential. Melissa, Belinda's neice comes from the west to finish high school and then later trains to become a school teacher. Amy Jo, Clare and Kate's daughter, who has a very close friendship with Belinda becomes especially close to Melissa and Belinda feels her and Amy Jo will no longer have the closeness they have once had. All three girls become involved with the sam guy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Belinda is a tenderhearted teenager......with nieces, August 13, 2003
By

(REAL NAME)
Belinda is a teenager. Her closest friends are Melissa (her niece from the West) and Amy Jo the daughter of Clare. The three girls have very different personalities but all love each other...until....one handsome young man comes to their school. Knowing Jackson threatens their friendship for a time.

Belinda cannot bear anything in pain or dying, so she just naturally rescues whatever is maimed. This leads to her brother Luke asking her to help him in his doctor rounds. Belinda has found her calling even at her very young age.

The Davis family continues to be a Godly influence on their community and it zones in on the Simpson family. Young Drew, 17, is seriously injured in a logging accident and Dr. Luke is forced to amputate his arm. The results provide an exciting book to add to Oke's Love Comes Softly series.

4.0 out of 5 stars DELIGHTFUL!, April 17, 2000
By A Customer
While some of Oke's books were better, this one is still very good. This book is more of a lessons of life type. It shows exactly how each and every teenage female has felt at one point or another. It brings to fore the fact that we all know that life is not always some picnic, but that everything turns out for the best in the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Childhood, May 2, 2011

I love to re read all of my favorite books from childhood and this is the first series that I had ever read. Of course, any book that my parents got me, I would devour, but I love this whole series! Including the Prairie Legacy series!

5.0 out of 5 stars More Interesting Than Some Other Books In The Series, May 20, 2010
I listened to this book as an audio book, so my perception may be different than others'.

I thought it was a very good book. Better than some of the past books in this series (not that any were BAD). This story was mostly about Belinda, Marty and Clark's youngest child. Belinda is almost a young lady now and is starting to find her way in the world. She is very sensitive to the needs of others and when people, and animals, are hurt. Her older brother, Luke, who is a doctor, takes Belinda under his wing to begin training her as a nurse.

Also, Marty's granddaughter Melissa (Missie's daughter), also comes to live with the Davis family for 2 years to get more schooling. Melissa is technically Belinda's niece, but they are about the same age and between the two of them and Amy Jo, they have lots of pre-adolescent girl drama to talk about.

An interesting *coming-of-age* story for Belinda.

5.0 out of 5 stars New story within a story, April 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Even though this is an obvious continuation of the Davis story started in Love Comes Softly, this book almost feel like a new series as it almost completely focuses on Belinda, Clark and Marty's daughter, and her coming of age. It is a fresh approach to a series with five books already. Very good, with approachable character that experience identifiable life events. Once you read this, you will want to finish the series (if you didn't already!).

I did think Ms. Oke did a wonderful portrayal of the power of prayer within the novel.
