Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

"Set in a beautiful and exotic country besieged by political and religious struggles, Loveswept is a compelling story of a young Turkish woman's romantic encounters that transcend deep cultural differences. A must read. Once you start, you won't be able to put it down."
--Helen S. Astin, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, UCLA, co-author of Women of Influence, Women of Vision

"Loveswept
beautifully portrays how the political and cultural transformation of a country deeply impacts personal lives. Standing at the crossroads between traditional values and a modern life, Neri must battle societal expectations on women as well as overcome her fears. Her journey is a journey of reclaiming one's own identity."
--Almila Ozdek, Ph.D. English, George Washington University

Engin Holmstrom has given us a wonderful book that sweeps the reader into joy, nostalgia and serious contemplation of Turkey, past and present. Ms. Holmstrom has given us the opportunity to enjoy a cross-cultural love story in a compelling portrait of 1950s Turkey; one cannot help but be drawn from the 1950s to the picture of present-day Turkey. A moving book by a thoughtful painter.

As a Turkish-American, I really enjoyed reading 'Loveswept'. It's not only a beautiful love story but it also describes the political situation I remember of 1950's Turkey vividly, including the American incursion into the country's political, cultural and social scenes. Neri's journey of "reclaiming her identity" and fulfilling her desires really touched me.

Easy to read and hard to put down.
