Amazing album. Its oddly hard to find music of this style that manages to hold back the electronics enough to allow the more oranic parts to take center stage. The balancing here is spot on. Wish there was more available music from her now. The album fits nicely next to bjork, sigur ros, aphex twin (drukqs), mira calix and even autechre. My favorite new artiest in recent memory. For aesthetic reaons the cd is one of those odd black coated ones they used to use for psone games. Looks amazing but isn't universally compatible.

This album is a must. It is one of a few albums that I only listen to all the way through. The way the songs play with one another create such beautiful contrast. The album is perfectly paced. The individual songs are beautiful on their own, too, make no mistake, but to really catch the beauty, one should at least get acquainted with the album as a whole before delving into the individual works of art. Each one has made me cry at one time or another. Or, made me shiver in ecstasy. Really, one of the best albums I've ever heard.

If you're wondering what's going on with the young musically in Austria's non-classical world, check this out. Very challenging to your sound system, speakers or headphones: the better they are, the better this will sound. A tendency toward the melancholy.

Simultaneously beautiful and haunting. Definitely worth checking out, especially if you enjoy piano compositions. I'm looking forward for her future releases...!

What a beautiful, dark fairy tale this is. Only a precious few bands, like Sigur Ros, are capable of making this sort of otherworldly music. Haunting, gorgeous, and very special...I can't wait to hear more from Anja Plaschg.

Please do yourselves a favor and listen to this album. Never in my life have I been more drawn to a hanful of songs in my life. I can't begin to describe how Soap&Skin makes me feel.
I wish that her music was more accessable in the US.

[...]review:
This album is unlike any I've heard in quite some time. It evokes thoughts and imagery worthy of a Tim Burton film, yet has the ability to literally bring you to your knees if you feel so inclined. Anja Plaschg, aka Soap&Skin, pours every bit of her emotion and well being into the 13 compositions of this album, and the result is something so intriguing and hauntingly poetic that you'll find yourself [ . . .] read more at [...] |
