5.0 out of 5 stars Love Is In The Air, February 6, 2003

A very pleasant collection of pop rock love songs with shades of everything from longing, sadness and resolve, to humor and triumph. Some day soon when file sharing kills all theme and concept records we're going to miss good ones like Lovey Dovey All the Time. Enjoy them while you can.

5.0 out of 5 stars That old trick of sounding effortless, February 4, 2003

With Lovey Dovey All The Time, Stace England has knocked out a casual gem of a pop album. England set himself the task of writing an entire album of love songs, a plan that could've landed him deep in Michael Bolton country but the man's steered effortlessly clear of that dark and horrible place. Instead, he's created an album shot through with that almost insane, yearning optimism of those in love or just plain lovelorn. The arrangements allow the songs, England's vocals and the harmonies to stand out, as well they should. And he's ably supported by backing band, The Implications, who recall a few of those lost great Beatlesy power pop acts like The Flamin' Groovies, The dB's and Lets Active. But basically, Lovey Dovey All The Time is one of those albums you thought they didn't make any more - concise, thrilling pop that doesn't outstay its welcome with unnecessary filler. Seek it out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Steve Miller Take Note, January 27, 2003

Supposedly recorded for about $700 Lovey Dovey All The Time has some of the most simple, gorgeous and unpretentious love songs I've heard in years. Picture Her Face and Glenn Miller are the top of the lot, with Glenn Miller's acoustic guitar and cello demonstrating how a small budget can sometimes be an advantage. England doesn't mess up the beautiful sparseness with extra accompaniment. Love is treated as a serious subject throughout but there's welcome humor in the form of She Loves Kurt Cobain. England will take abuse from the fanatical with this perfect pop gem, which is still ringing in my head days after the last listen. Chatterbox is a good idea that gets too cute, and Downwind is a bit flat but on the whole it's a fine, charming CD with equal does of rock and pop. Next time give the man an even $1,000 and see what he can do.
