4.0 out of 5 stars Practical and powerful!, July 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Loving God's Way: A Fresh Look at the One Another Passages (Paperback)
For Christians, or churches interested in putting all the "one another" passages in the New Testament into practice, this little book is a gem. A lot of practical wisdom is packed into this small package. It presents the kind of Christianity stands in sharp contrast to the televangelist glitz!

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Refer to it Often!!, January 17, 2008
This review is from: Loving God's Way (Paperback)
I've had this book for many years, and go back to it time and time again. Based upon the "one Another" principles in the Bible (Love one another, Admonish one another, Serve one another, Confess to one another etc. etc.), this is an awesome reference book to help you live out a life of Christ-like relationships. It is well written and scripturally sound. Even though each of these principles work together to create a whole picture of how to love as Christ loves, each chapter stands alone so that you can go right to a topic you are interested in at any given time.

A few of the many helpful topics covered:
<> What is Bitterness, do you have it and what you can do about it.
<> What is gossip and what isn't?
<> How can you work through conflict in a healthy way?

Great real-world material you can actually use in daily life. Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and on the mark, August 31, 2009

Clem Boyd (Beavercreek, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Loving God's Way: A Fresh Look at the One Another Passages (Paperback)
This book is one of the most practical works on how love ought to work in the church and in life in general. DeLashmutt's work is methodical and personal at the same time, a great combination that many authors struggle with. He makes the material accessible for anyone but there's plenty of depth for the experienced Christian. If you want to move love in the church beyond the fellowship handshake on Sunday morning, here's your book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage of body life, March 2, 2008
This review is from: Loving God's Way: A Fresh Look at the One Another Passages (Paperback)
This study of the "one-another" passages in the New Testament is practical, grace-oriented, and backed by decades of experience in successful ministry. Gary is a superb Bible teacher, and a pastor who loves people in exactly the ways he calls on others to love.

This book is excellent for new or older Christians who need inspiration in building relationships that glorify Christ.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read, loving approach, August 27, 2011
This review is from: Loving God's Way (Paperback)
This book sat on my shelf for about a year. I don't know why I didn't read it initially as it has a lot of benefits. Yes, the book does take a look at the "one another passages." I initially thought it might add some insight just into those verses. What it accomplished went beyond mere theology and went straight to application. Was I applying these verses before I read the book? Yes and no. As I'm sure most people who are being honest with themselves will answer. The book is excellent for personal as well as group spiritual growth.

The second thing this little gem accomplished for me is to show how functional and loving churches opporate. How they care for one another, forgive one another, and build one another up. A few concepts I drew insight from was when the author shared his own history of drug addiction. The author tells us how he asked his parents to forgive him, that his parents did forgive him, but that it took time to earn their trust back. I have found that a lot of christians get the concepts of forgiveness wrong, and I was delighted to see this concept covered so well in this book. The author stated that although he was angry that they didn't trust him as much as they did before he violated their trust, and he further explained that it made him very angry that they didn't trust him as much. However, he later demonstrates how they were actually correct in their thinking. They did forgive him but he had to earn their trust back. The best indicator of future behavior is past behavior, and although the author teaches through scripture that we should forgive, he also shows us that you don't hand over the keys to your house to the guy you just forgave for stealing from you. We must forgive, but trust is earned.

A quote from the book I really enjoyed was, "Harboring bitterness is like shooting yourself to hit your offender with the recoil of the gun!" Sounds simple enough but for a guy (me) who has struggled with bitterness that quote convicted my heart in a very positive way. I can truly recommend this book to any church organization, ministry, or individual. It has a lot of impact.
