Great Addition to the Trilogy,
By
This review is from: Loving the Highlander (Highlander Trilogy) (Mass Market Paperback)
Time travel - 1200 AD to present day - In the second installment of this time travel trilogy the MacKeage brothers, Greylen and Morgan, their friends and their nemesis, the MacBain's were all in a battle when the wizard Daar, in an inept moment to transport Greylen, accidentally sent all of them hurtling 800 years into the future. (Greylen's story, the elder of the two, was told in "Charming the Highlander".)It is eight years later and Morgan, Morgan the younger brother is simply, biding his time, living in the backwoods close to nature and reluctant to let go of his past to join the `moderns' as has his brother. Sunning himself, `au natural' Morgan's solitude is disturbed by Mercedes (Sadie) Quill who is both researching the area for a proposed wilderness park and searching for the lost dream of her father - the rumored gold mine of a legendary hermit. Sadie, discovering Morgan, couldn't resist taking photos of and enjoying the magnificent view this `Adonis' provided her. Morgan catches her, destroys her film and hopes to scare her sufficiently to leave the area and it's secrets intact. Morgan's concerns were real, should the unnatural `rain forest' appearance of the gorge be discovered. (The gorge exhibited unbelievable traits after Greylen, so furious with Daar tossed the wizard's magical staff into the deepest depths of a Maine pond.). The threat of danger to the pristine condition of his land would be endangered as well as the `highlanders' lives should they be discovered. What Morgan did not realize was that the bigger threat though would be to his state of mind once he'd tasted the lips of Sadie Quill, the graineag, he dubbed her as her stubborn and prickly nature became quite evident. I thought this was a really superb offering for the second book in this unique trilogy of forward time travel and the problems inherent in the adaptation of time. The romance was nicely done, in that both the heroine and hero had many obstacles to overcome. Sadie, had both physical and emotional problems stemming from the blame she assumed for her father and sister's deaths. Morgan, the confirmed bachelor, had to accept the fact that life without Sadie was nowhere near as complete as loving her had become. I found the writing to be beautifully balanced with just enough passion, magic, and wonderful secondary characters - a truly delightful and fun read.

This review is from: Loving the Highlander (Highlander Trilogy) (Mass Market Paperback)
The second in the trilogy by the new author. This series is set in Maine (my home state) and involves a group of men who were transported forward through time (along with their Druid). The stories take up 3 (or was it 5) years later with the group living in the mountains of Maine. Along comes Sadie Quill who is looking to preserve the vision she has of her father and family members who passed on due to a tragic fire that also left her scarred, both on the inside and outside.Morgan MacKeage is finally going to meet his match in Sadie. He spends a little time with her and decides he is hooked and they will be married (not that she is agreeing). As they look for the gold that was her father's passion you will see both of the characters grow.

Janet Chapman's "Highlander Series" began with "Charming the Highlander" - it was such a great read that I immediately ordered "Loving the Highlander" and "Wedding the Highlander". While the second book might not have been quite as good as the first book - I thoroughly enjoyed it! This series is an interesting mix of romance and sci-fi. I absolutely could not put this book down once I got through the first half. Her characters are interesting and the story moves right along. I have really enjoyed Ms. Chapman's books!

Janet Chapman's heroes make my heart race and my toes curl. Bravo! The concept of her Highlander series is fresh and imaginative. It is a time travel series--but the stories start several years after a clan of medieval warriors has been brought into the future. I loved the fact that the men have already adjusted to the modern world and I didn't have to suffer through yet another story with characters learning to use modern appliances. And I found Ms. Chapman's writing to be very smooth, humorous, and comforting. If you're looking for a good romance without bloody murders or sickening conflict, and you just want to get lost in a nice story--the Highlander series is for you. It's the first time in fifteen years I called my local bookstore and asked when an author's next book would be put on the shelves--and I will be waiting bright and early at the front door for Wedding the Highlander.

Adventure, romance and naked men,

This review is from: Loving the Highlander (Highlander Trilogy) (Mass Market Paperback)
There is gold to be found in the mountains of Maine and Mercedes "Sadie" Quill is going to find it and fulfill her late father's dream. Hired by a consortium of local businessmen to map out the surrounding wilderness for a future nature park, Sadie is also determined to fulfill her father's quest and find a long rumored source of gold in the area. Physically scarred and emotionally wounded by the fire that had killed her younger sister and hastened her father's death, Sadie shies away from men and prefers the solitude of working in the mountains. That all changes one morning when Sadie inadvertently stumbles across a man swimming in a lake. A very naked and gorgeous man. What does a red-blooded young woman do when confronted by such a sight? She watches...and takes pictures.
Morgan MacKeage is a man who has traveled a long way. 800 years to be exact. Plucked by a wizard with an agenda out of the 12th century along with his brother and several other highlanders, Morgan has had to learn to survive and live in the modern age. When the wizard Daar warns him of evil forces in the area, Morgan believes it may have something to do with the ribbon markers he has been finding all over the valley. Resolved to protect and keep hidden the secrets of his valley, Morgan is determined to drive those responsible away. That all changes one morning when Morgan, out for a swim in the lake, realizes he is being watched. What does a red-blooded, naked young man to do when confronted with such a realization? He chases down the Peeping Thomas -- or Thomasina, in this case -- ties her up and kisses her. Yes, perhaps living in the 21st century isn't so bad after all. Shaken, bewildered and more than a tad turned on by her encounter with the gorgeous, nude maniac, Sadie is fairly sure she'll never see him again. Going home to visit her mother, she's in for more shocks. There's a tall, naked stranger in the kitchen and her mother tells her she's pregnant. Humoring her mother, Sadie agrees to go on a double date with her mother's lover and his cousin only to find out that her date is none other than her own Naked Wild Man. Thus begins a most diverting tale of the clash of the sexes. Sadie is a strong, independent heroine who hides a heart filled with guilt and sorrow. Morgan is your typical warrior male who has found himself in a more peaceful time. Seeking a new challenge, Morgan finds it in Sadie and their encounters are raucous, uninhibited and sexy. Those following the series will be delighted to see the meddling wizard Daar still at it, as well as catch up with the other time traveling highlanders. TheSchemer

The second in the series about Grey's brother Morgan was very enjoyable. The fact that Grey and his warrior's time travelled to the present six years ago and are already acclimated to this century was a plus.I only had two problems with this book. One: Morgan was still a bit too "13th" century. He should have learned by Grey and Grace's relationship that in "modern" times you don't order a woman around and make her decisions for her. Two: Sadie let him and didn't show enough independence. But it was still a very good read and I'm looking forward to reading the final book in the trilogy.

charming Highlander time travel romance,
This review is from: Loving the Highlander (Highlander Trilogy) (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1200 AD during a clan battle in the Scottish Highlands, the Druid wizard Father Daar casts a spell that accidentally sends several MacBain and MacKeage warriors into the twenty-first century to include the MacKeage brothers Greylen and Morgan. During the chaos of time transformation, Daar lost his magical staff in a Maine pond. Since arriving and settling in their new century, Greylen, now known as Michael, has married his modern day lover (see CHARMING THE HIGHLANDER).Morgan worries about the impact that Daar's lost staff has had on the surrounding flora and fauna. When Mercedes Quill begins hiking and marking the area for a wilderness park set aside, Morgan becomes concerned that the Highlander secrets will be revealed. He plans to stop "Sadie" from succeeding, but is shocked by his attraction to her as much as by her obstinate resolve. For Sadie it is an affectionate legacy honoring her late father though she finds the weird Morgan quite a loving distraction. The second Highlander time travel romance is a charming tale that readers of medieval warriors displaced will appreciate. The key, as with the first novel, is that the Highlanders have had time to adapt to their new century yet have to courageously confront technological things taken for granted by their beloved ones that seem magical to their psyche. The story line is fun to follow as the living creatures by the magical pond add depth to a delightful "battle" of the sexes. With novels like these two MacBain tales, Janet Chapman shows she is a talent that sub-genre fans value. Harriet Klausner

When I started getting into this book I found myself getting frustrated with Sadie and Morgan.. they never did what I wanted them to do. But as the story progressed I fell in love with Sadie. I loved that she wasn't this petite, delicate woman with flawless skin and gigantic breasts. I felt that Morgan was quite chauvinistic but in the end he just seemed clueless on how to be with a woman and when I finished this book I missed these two. Good read.

This is the first book in the series that I purchased, I will be buying the rest!!! I love a book with a fast plot, and this book delivers. I really enjoyed the way the author gives life to everyone, and the "magic" is not so far fetched that it makes the story line totally unbelievable. Lots of humor which make the book even more enjoyable!

This is a fairly good read. Not sure if I am a bit saturated as I have/am reading 3 of her books back to back and sometimes simultaneously. I think i enjoyed Moonlight Warrior the best so far.
