Book Description

April 1, 2000
While there are classes for those few hours spent giving birth, where does one find instruction for the years of parenting to follow that trip home from the hospital? How can a parent really meet their child's needs? Bill Richardson seeks to answer these - and other - questions in the most practical of ways. Loving Obedience is a systematic, practical parent training manual. Be intentional in learning how to parent. You just might be surprised to see how quickly it makes a difference in the life of your own child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical Parenting That Works!, June 1, 2000
This review is from: Loving Obedience: Child Training Techniques that Work (Paperback)
As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and father of three daughters, I cannot bgin to say where I would be without Loving Obedience. In my own home, we have used the practical techniques Dr. Richardson provides with great success with our daughters. Our two older daughters, twin 8 year olds, get themselves up for school, make their bed and dress themselves and then wake us up. No Joke! We got there with Loving Obedience. As a therapist, I have recommended Loving Obedience to hundreds of clients and not one has been disappointed. You learn skills to build your children up in a world that tears them down and simple techniques to stop unwanted behavior and start new desired behavior! This is parenting at its best. Oh Yeh, I know Dr. Richardson and his family and he has successfully put his skills to the test with his own two sons. They don't come any finer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, loving, and creative, April 13, 2008
This review is from: Loving Obedience: Child Training Techniques that Work (Paperback)
Richardson clearly teaches a loving, consistent, and practical way to discipline. I appreciate the examples of behaviors and their consequences -- both positive and negative. I also really like the ways he encourages parents to catch their children doing good, show appreciation, and creatively reward good behavior; I think this is as much a part of parenting and the more unpleasant parts of correction.

Chapters are short and meaty with lots of examples for each concept. Concepts are broken down into actions that you could really attempt a couple at a time. I read the book through in two nights, but I will definitely be going back for reminders and encouragement.
