5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, A Book About Those Difficult Marital Problems, March 19, 2001
This review is from: Loving Solutions (Paperback)
What happens when a woman chooses to remain in a marriage involving verbal abuse or even unfaithfulness--for the sake of her children? Most books write her off as co-dependent and offer no direction.

Yet with recent information from Wallerstein's study, we have come to realize that children are often better off raised in such environments than if parents were divorced. And some are willing to pay such a price for their little ones. Others have hope that things will change down the road--how does one cope in the meantime? Everyone, it seems, avoids addressing these questions--except for Gary Chapman.

Chapman's direction is practical. He also helps counselors/pastors accept that fact that some problems have no solutions and just have to be accepted if the marriage is to continue.

As a pastor of 22 years, I take off my hat to Chapman, for he is the first to address these realities. Good stuff.

If you think your marriage, or know of someone who's marriage is in deep trouble, this book can offer you some hope. This author gets to the point very quickly and offers practical advice on the most difficult of obstacles to overcome in high risk marriages. The topics discussed are irresponsibility, workaholics, over bearing spouses, abusive (both verbal and physical), alcoholics, and a few more. No "magic bullet" is being offered which makes this text more valuable for those that are serious and honest about their problems if they are faced with one of these major problems. Even though most of the cases presented are extreme for most marriages, this book should also be helpful for those that want to be sensitive to early warning signs and hence, stay out of these situations. This book is easy to read and understand and is sensitive to those in these situations who may be reluctant to obtain a copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read! A keeper!, July 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Loving Solutions (Paperback)
I was searching for this book (it's out of print and shouldn't be!) to give to a friend and am grateful to have found it on Amazon. Gary Chapman shows the reader, through the use of interesting case studies, how to lovingly bring about change in multiple types of difficult situations in a marriage with a spouse, how to change yourself 1st but then lovingly appeal for change in the situation.
Very easy to read. Therapists and pastors should use it in their counseling and refer it to their clients. It's a very helpful book that is not dated in my estimation nor is it a lengthy book.
