Loving MYSELF as gay for the first time!,
By Dr. Joe Kort "(www.JoeKort.com)" (Royal Oak, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Loving Someone Gay (Paperback)
This was my gay bible in the 1980's when I came out of the closet. A friend gave me this book which was in it's first printing. I was so frightened and needed something that came from a positive voice of authority and was gay affirmative! Don Clark was that voice for me and it is nice to see it has been revised and re-issued and still around. Thank you Don!

A Very Understanding Study of the Gay Person,
By A Customer
This review is from: Loving Someone Gay (Paperback)
Written from the point of view of a gay, this is a book which covers most aspects of being Gay or Lesbian with sensitivity and great understanding. It is a truly worthwhile book to read whether you are gay, lesbian or "straight" - there are chapters that are aimed at all. Particularly unusual and worth reading is the chapter on being gay and married.

A Beautiful Book,
By
This review is from: Loving Someone Gay (Paperback)
(...) this book is not a sex guide. Rather, "Loving Someone Gay" is a heartfelt look into the psychology of gay men and women. It shares their experiences, feelings, and needs through stories and expert observation. It's a sensitively written glimpse into the gay mind, and I highly recommend it to any gay person--or the loved ones of a gay person--that would like to better understand his or herself.

I guess you have to learn how to love yourself first. This is one of the most powerful, liberating and sensitive texts written and now updated for all of us who have had to deal with 'coming out' and living our lives to the beat of a different drum. Only another soul who has experienced this journey could write with such simplicity and honesty and with such compassion and hope about the gay experience. Wherever you are on your own journey of gay self discovery, this is a 'must have' and 'must read' book. It is written for everyone who might be dealing with someone being gay - Don Clark has written this for you, your wife, your children, your parents, or your friends and workmates. You will not be able to put it down, I guarantee if you read this with an open and honest heart, it will help you find the courage and peace you are seeking.

the someone was me,
By
This review is from: Loving Someone Gay (Paperback)
This was the first book I read when I was coming out. I learned that the "someone" I needed to learn to love was me. This book taught me how. I wrote the author in gratitude, and years later, still recommend this book to people just coming out, as well as to people just discovering a friend or loved one is Gay.

Sounds corny but it changed my life.,
By
This review is from: Loving Someone Gay (Paperback)
When I didn't even know who I was, a smart person had me read this book. It changed my life. I thought I was liberal because I didn't have any problem with "those people." I was in such denial that I couldn't recognize that they was me! Don Clark, in his gentle and understanding manner, helped me look at myself and realize not only that I was gay, but that it was OK and I could find a way to make it work. I first read this decades ago. I still recommend it to everyone I know who needs to learn about gay people. One of the biggest ah-ha's from the book was about acceptance of differences. How could I be so judgmental of those who were different and then expect others to accept me? (I thought I was accepting but deep down inside I was hating who I was.) This book opened the door to a life of loving and cherishing differences in all people. Most importantly, I learned to stop hating the essence of who I was. This book is literally one of the biggest reasons why I am so positive and proud of being different and of being gay.

Saved my sanity,
This review is from: Loving Someone Gay (Hardcover)
I read the book - the only one of it's kind - when originally published. As a child born to a religious family, I felt bad and sinful as I began to have feelings for boys my age. I could not talk to anyone. I just knew that something bad would happen should I disclose my secret. This book helped me begin to repair the self-loathing I felt. Read it, please. It is more about loving yourself in a world that hates you.

A must read for everyone,
By Elvis Montenegro (Rockville, MD United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Loving Someone Gay (Perfect Paperback)
I read this book and loved it. It's broken down into 3 parts; loving yourself, relationships, society. The first part helped me accept who I was and who I am, the second part is amazing. It is like a class called relationships 101. It is the part of the book that I have most highlighted and made notes on. It explains and helps you express what you want, expect and don'ts out of any relationship. It is so good. I have passed it on to friends who are having trouble in paradise and it has helped them talk things through with their significant others. |
