More About the Author

Byron Katie (she was born Byron Kathleen Reid; everyone calls her Katie) has one job: to teach people how to end their own suffering. When Katie appears, lives change. As she guides people through her simple yet powerful process of inquiry, called The Work, they find that their stressful beliefs--about life, other people, or themselves--radically shift. Through this process, Katie gives people the tool to set themselves free.

In 1986, at the bottom of a ten-year fall into depression, rage, and self-loathing, Byron Katie woke up one morning to a state of constant joy that has never left her. She realized that when she believed her thoughts she suffered, but when she questioned them, she didn't suffer, and that this is true for every human being.

Since then, she has worked with millions of people at free public events, in prisons, hospitals, churches, V. A. treatment centers, corporations, universities, and schools. Participants at her weekend workshops, the nine-day School for The Work, and the twenty-eight-day residential Turnaround House report profound experiences and lasting transformations. "Katie's events are riveting to watch," the Times of London reported. Eckhart Tolle calls The Work "a great blessing for our planet." And Time magazine named Katie a "spiritual innovator for the new millennium."

Byron Katie has written three bestselling books: Loving What Is, I Need Your Love--Is That True?, and A Thousand Names for Joy. Her other books are Question Your Thinking, Change The World; Who Would You Be Without Your Story?; and, for children, Tiger-Tiger, Is It True? She is married to the writer, scholar, and translator Stephen Mitchell.

On her website, www.thework.com, you will find basic information about Katie and The Work, Katie's blog, free materials to download, audio and video clips, a schedule of events, and a free helpline with a network of facilitators.

I am a psychologist and I read lots of material, all of the time. Some I like, some not so much. Byron Katie's Loving What Is??!! I gave ten sets of the cards and book as gifts to colleagues and relatives for Christmas! LOVE IT! She writes well. She is easy to read, follow, and understand, the core questions makes sense. "The work" iteself? Not so easy. To really go inthere and do the work can be difficult, but the reward for doing the work is priceless. Kudos to Katie!

I read the book "Loving what is" and the cards complement the book. I recommended highly. Why do I have to add 4 more words?

I have read most of Katie's books, seen videos, done the work. It can be life transforming to realize that your thoughts are creating your reality. Once I began questioning my thoughts, at least the negative ones, I discovered that happiness is a reality based on radically accepting things I have no control over. Not everyone is ready for this work. It does require a level of psychological sophistication. It isn't a cult, though some of the true believers try to make it one. Honestly, having traveled many miles through a spiritual journey, Katie's 4 Questions and the Turnaround have done more than many other self help tools. As a professional therapist for many years, a meditation teacher for 34 years, and a trauma therapist, I wholeheartedly recommend The Work. It is work, it challenges your every belief, and it can help you discover happiness.

I have several of Katie Byron books. I think I may have the first edition of her very first book, Katie intrigues me so. Her approach and my practice of 'the work' seems to do the most for me when all else fails. The reason I gave just 2 stars for the card Deck is because the style and design of the cards is terrible. The font is so small and the ink so light that the effort it takes to read the quotes is counterproductive. I am accustomed to Card Decks with nice pictures on one side and the quote on the other side or a combination of both. There are no pictures or anything creative to engage the reader into reflection. This card deck is a great disservice to the author's work. However, Katie would have a lovely reply and not let it bother her. I apologize Katie. I will 'work' on this one a bit more. In the meantime, I had to write this review.
