The best Elvis has ever sounded on record!,

This review is from: Loving You (Audio CD)
With the Elvis recording going into popular domain in Europe this year, RCA is finnally getting it right. The original albums, as they were, with bonus tracks, in the best possible sound, with original cover and back cover of the albums. Beautiful. The sound restoration is to write home about, using DSD technology, Elvis is suddenly alive again. You can hear him with such a clarity, every vocal inflexion he makes, it it just breathtaking, even compared to the remasters done three or four years ago. These three albums: Elvis Presley , Elvis and Loving You belong in everyone collection in this form. ESSENTIAL.

The things I did and I saw would make the Earth stand still.,

This is the soundtrack to Elvis' second movie. Only seven different songs were recorded for the movie. So the soundtrack also includes other songs recorded at the same sessions. Like almost everything Elvis recorded in the 1950s, this is great stuff. Classic songs like "Teddy Bear", "Loving You" and "Mean Woman Blues". Sure, there are a few not-that-great songs like "Hot Dog", but Elvis' energy and enthusiasm makes up for whatever deficiencies the songs have. Highly recommended to fans of the King.

Five stars for the CD. Maybe 2 or 3 stars for the movie. If you are a fan of the early Elvis pre Army look you will want the album just for the cover picture. The songs from the movie are excellent, but maybe you just had to be there. Elvis movies never received an Academy Award nomination. The Academy just never got it. "Loving You" was not nominated for best song nor was any song ever nominated if it was sung in an Elvis film. He might not have been the James Dean of actors but he was the Elvis of singers and quite often the songs were better than the tunes from other films. (The winner in 1957 was "All The Way" from "The Joker is Wild.)" This CD has some great music. "Mean Woman Blues" "(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear" "Lovin' You" "Got a lot o' Livin' To Do" "Lonesome Cowboy" "Hot Dog" and "Party" are all from the film, "Loving You." You also get some songs not from the film and some extra tunes not on the vinyl original album. "Tell Me Why" was written by Titus Turner and was a 1958 hit for Gale Storm. Elvis' version did not appear until 1966. "Have I Told you Lately That I Love You" is pure country. If you want a CD to listen to that displays many varied Elvis tempos and vocal variety this is a good one. Tom Willett
