The reviewer from Brazil is entitled to his opinion. But I do say to all who haven't heard this CD, that this is one of the most beautiful albums Ms. Horn has ever put out. Don't be misled by what the previous reviewer said about Horn's keyboard use. She plays her keyboard, AND acoustic piano in the soothing style that brings to mind her "Here's To Life" album, without the strings. Songs like the title track, & "It Amazes Me" bring out her classic acoustic style, while "Love Dance", & "The Man You Were" show off her talents on electric keyboard, while still keeping it real with her jazz roots. All together with her seductive voice, "Loving You" is truly one of the most romantic albums, jazz or otherwise, of this modern age.

The great Shirley Horn passed away on Thursday and I'm listening to her now as I write this. A reviewer said that she had a whispery voice that conjured cashmere and cognac and they were right on. This CD happens to be one of my favorites, just Shirley and her piano....Should I Surrender a perfect example. She will be missed.

I disagree with the gentleman from Rio on this album. This CD is the reason I fell in love with Shirley Horn after hearing it on PBS a few years back. My favorite cut is "Should I Surrender?" It takes me back to the a time of falling in love and how wonderful but dangerous it feels. This is music for the ages! Ms. Horn's artistry will be missed.

Carlos's opinion notwithstanding, this is certainly among Shirley Horn's finest achievements...if NOT her finest. Given "Here's to Life," I realize such audacity is tantamount to blaspheme but I swear, despite that CD's undeniable artistic perfection, I've grown to play "Loving You" more frequently.

The title song, Dreamy, Love Dance, In the Dark, and the absolutely amazing Kiss and Run are among my favorites, but the list continues: The Island is an extended and transcendent piece of musical architecture with a faraway tropical pulse that is very much worth eight minutes of your time. Especially through headphones.

This inspired original collection from 1997 closes with the oh-so-slowly evolving All of a Sudden My Heart Sings. Stick with it, and "Loving You," and yours will too.

Thrilling. Meticulous. Most highly recommended.

I was fortunate enough to meet Shirley after two shows in the Boston Area over a three year span. For the first show, I was the ONLY PERSON who even asked if I could meet her and have her sign my CD. The security guard went into her dressing room, returned and escorted me back to meet the lady who had touched my heart since 1992's "Here's To Life" CD. She was very gracious and was kind enough to honor my wish.

The second time around was to promote THIS album. Instead of asking this time, I waited for her at the bar just to the left of the stage as she came down after her final set. She remembered me! She signed my CD: "To Starrmann: I'll always be here to light up your life!" - Shirley Horn :-) (in honor of her take on Jobim's goregous, "Someone to Light Up My Life," my favorite song.) I was soooooo elated that I went home that night in a complete blissful fog and that's what this recording is for ME-a complete blissful fog, and I KNOW it wasn't the wine. It was Shirley's soft as silk delivery.

God, this woman's voice is the BEST medicine in the world when you need 2 feel a little peace, a little calm. I'll never forget the LIFE she put into "Fever" when a bunch of us got her all excited when we started "whooin' " her from the back of the room! She LOVED that playful energy coming from us and reciprocated it by giving us an energized and fun rendition! It was as if she was partyin' right along WITH US!

Contemporary Jazz Music has lost a special gem and one of the most badass pianists in the entire universe. I like to sometimes play this CD and let out a few "whoo's" myself hoping she can hear 'em up there in Music Heaven! God bless her family always. :-)

This woman is truly one of the greats in jazz, somewhere in the class with Jimmy Scott, Ella, Sarah, Nancy, you know that crowd. As usual she can spin a song into next week, but the wait is worth it. This music makes you slow down and take life easy. Buy It.
