In examining Dr. Partridge's materials, I have been struck by the wisdom of his ideas, couched in an entirely unique vocabulary. The proof that his principles work can be witnessed in his own thriving stepfamily and the testimonials of the hundreds of families he has helped find peace and stability.
William T. Follette, M.D., Chief of Psychiatry (Ret.), Kaiser Permanente - San Francisco, CA
In my 25 years of ministry, I have not known anyone who is more uniquely qualified to address the complexities of the modern family. Dr. Don Partridge is not afraid to deal directly with the messy challenges of blended family dynamics and provides a practical road map toward healthy relationships in the family system.

About the Author

Dr. Donald Partridge is the proud parent/stepparent of a highly successful blending stepfamily of seven children. When Don and his wife Jenetha met and married, they were both single parents, Don with two children and Jenetha with three. With the addition of two of their own, their blending family became truly; yours, mine, and ours.
As a result of interacting with other single parents and stepfamilies, Don and Jenetha realized that their personal experiences and difficulties were shared by many other single parents and stepfamilies. In 1989 they both committed their future life's work to providing knowledgeable, well-researched, practical solutions for single parents and stepfamilies.
Together, Don and Jenetha are currently conducting conferences and workshops throughout the country.

Navigating your way through a step/blending family can end in disaster without the proper tools and knowledge. I was on the edge of that cliff until we ran across a whole new way of acting/thinking in this new family. Don and Jenetha Partridge's book, Loving Your Stepfamily, guides you through five basic principles that you will find challenging, mind blowing, and most effective in your relationships within the step/blending family universe. Yes universe! It's an entirely different realm of relationships. Understanding the bonds between these relationships is crucial if you want your new family to succeed. I highly recommend this book for not only those in this new family dynamic but for those who may be entering, or thinking about entering one. Do not take the idea of entering into a new multi-faceted family lightly. This new information will challenge you in ways you could never imagine. "The Art of Making Your Blending Family Work"; yes it is an art, applying the five principles: UNDERSTAND, IDENTIFY, ACCEPT, SEPERATE AND BENEFIT to your daily life. Creating a masterpiece takes practice, time and conscious effort. Practice these principles daily. Time is a component in change, don't be discouraged about changes in others in the near future but concentrate on what you can do about the circumstances at hand. Take courage and realize that change is a valuable tool. What's great about these principles is that it only requires YOU to act on them to see results. Apply these principles with every relationship in your new family and watch the changes; disarm your ex-spouse, learn how to encourage the God-given bonds in your children/step children and give them something that will build them up as capable adults and watch the rewards come back to you in time. I can say with certainty, if you're delving into this new universe for he first time you will find radically new information in this book that you may never realize otherwise. Read it. Live it. Share it.

Loving Your Step Family is a great asset for bewildered step parents. The first message is to forget everything you learned in your nuclear family- you are now in an alternate universe! Funny how you may not have understood that before reading the book, but you sure see that clearly now. If you are a step parent and you feel like you are sinking grab a hold on this book and put to practice its concepts and see if your family turns around you can truly love your stepfamily.

As a marriage and family counselor, I've worked with plenty of folks wrestling with difficult issues of blending families, and I've found Dr. Don Partridge's material to be an invaluable resource.

Hey Everyone,

This book was ok for what I was looking for. The book did provide some interesting insight into where some of the tensions arise between step parents and step children. However, one of my main compaints was that it was too religious for me. I am not particularly religious, and was looking for more of a realistic understanding of how individuals think and feel during blending families instead of interpretations from the bible.
