5.0 out of 5 stars My New Favorite
This is one of the best cookbooks I've bought in a long time, and I buy a lot of cookbooks. I made the Haricots Frites with Tarragon Sauce for a small cocktail party I had recently, and everyone raved. It was great to be able to tell my guests that they shouldn't feel guilty because these frites are low-carb! I also just tried the Seared Scallops with Cauliflower...

3.0 out of 5 stars Unusual ingredients with some standout recipe ideas
Since I began following a low carb eating plan a year ago, I keep on the lookout for interesting cookbooks. If you're a gourmet cook, you will probably really like this book; I am not and it really doesn't suit my simple menu style or my family's tastebuds. There are some interesting recipes I probably will try to expand my horizons, but it won't be a "go to" cookbook...

I made the Haricots Frites with Tarragon Sauce for a small cocktail party I had recently, and everyone raved. It was great to be able to tell my guests that they shouldn't feel guilty because these frites are low-carb! I also just tried the Seared Scallops with Cauliflower Florets, since scallops are in season, and the recipe was flawless. Whether or not you intentionally eat low-carb, these recipes are great!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Low carb book, February 14, 2005

I found this book great because I love food and don't want to feel deprived in this style of eating.

The Burrata and Seared Fig Salad is fantastic and the Deep-fried Egg Frise Salad is out of this world.

Do your self a favor. Get it and Cook.

This is a lovely cookbook, beautifully photographed and presented, with a variety of wonderful recipes. I recommend it, but if you're on a low carb weight loss regime (as opposed to maintenance), it's important to note that most of these recipes are low carb but not VERY low carb... mostly around 10-15 net carbs. That's fine as compared to most cookbooks, but it's kind of a lot if you're counting carefully, so it's not things that you're going to be eating every night. But that's ok, because my other caveat is, this IS a gourmet cookbook. It's not something to pick up when you are trying to think of something for dinner, because you can bet that you won't have all of the ingredients in the house or the time to cook it. But when you think ahead and shop for the right things, you'll have an absolutely wonderful (and relatively low carb) meal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excited About Cooking Again!, September 6, 2010
This review is from: The Low-Carb Gourmet: Recipes for the New Lifestyle (Paperback)
I recently had to start reducing my carb intake for health reasons, and felt a little at a dead end with recipes, but then I found this book and I can't WAIT to go grocery shopping tomorrow! The recipes are unusual and feel decadent, but are made with simple ingredients that you more than likely will already have around your house; I was really pleased to see such an emphasis on vegetables and not just on meats and cheese. I am thrilled with this book, and the photography is also fantastic. Will repost again after trying a few recipes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Who says Low Carbs are bad for you?, June 26, 2006

Thank you Brigit for this great book and the preface that makes it all more personal!!

Have to change a few ingredients as they are hard to find in the UK but the recipes work out and are SO flavoursome. I am looking at the pounds fall away yet enjoying a full plate of tasty morsels.

Well done, pleased to have caught up with you even though its via your book - who would have known it when you were here as one of us 'a City Bankers Wife' back in the 80's!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very high style low carb recipes, November 11, 2011
By
ThirstyBrooks (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
The Low Carb Gourmet presents a great collection of extremely classy recipes. I don't think I'll cook these every day, because my daily audience is still in their teens. But these recipes look like a great way to impress adult diners.

Over the course of the last several months I've collected and generalized a very large number of low carb recipes. Many authors have taught me much. Most recipes in many cookbooks have begun to look very conventional.

The Low Carb Gourmet is different. This food looks impressive in the pictures, and more than half the recipes sound impressive on the page. The recipes come across with an elegant style that experienced readers of cookbooks can use to develop interesting variants on related dishes from other sources.

The wide variety of ideas in this book make it a great source for confident cooks who like to experiment in the kitchen. Binns uses some unconventional ingredients, and busy cooks may find this book too specialized for everyday use. Those who wish to use it as a manual for elegant cooking should not be disappointed. The well organized and efficiently written recipes make the dishes easy enough to prepare. Since people are unlikely to use these recipes often enough to memorize them, this book makes a great addition to a bookshelf.

I just made the Flourless Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Sauce and it is out of this world!!! That recipe alone is worth purchasing the book. This is the best low-carb book out there - I've bought many low-carb books and many of the recipes tasted terrible. Not so with this book!!! The recipes here are on par or better than recipes that are not low-carb! I feel so grateful to the author, Brigit Binns, for creating these recipes. Do yourself a favor and get this book!
