5.0 out of 5 stars Low-carb Ideas "3": Just as great as the first two books!
I enjoyed "Low-carb Ideas - Good Food2" so much I had to buy "3." I'm so glad I did! I have enjoyed the cheesecake and all the fast and easy soups the most. The soups gave me quick lunches that took about five minutes or even less for some from start to finish. Very low-carb and in some cases less then 1 gram for the whole thing. This has helped me...

2.0 out of 5 stars not what I expected
The recipes in this book were not what I expected. I thought the rave reviews meant it would be a great cookbook to add to my collection. I actually returned the book though because I was so disappointed. This has helped me stay on my diet because I can have time to figured out an evening meal, but lunch gets old if I only eat meat and cheese. Then did I mention cheesecake? Enough said.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, November 26, 2001

This is a great book. We struggled with the low-carb diet until we found this collection of recipes. There's enough variety and high-quality interesting recipes to keep you going for a LONG time. Make sure to experiment-- many of the dishes that sound different are actually VERY tasty. All courses are represented, from appetizers to great desserts. You can get as simple or as fancy as you want.

5.0 out of 5 stars Low Carb Ideas - Good Food 3, October 10, 2001
This review is from: Low-Carb Ideas: Good Food 3 (Paperback)
I have lost 2 sizes by eating a low-carb diet and Donna's recipes have really helped me! I can eat the best and richest of ingredients; foods that don't seem to be "DIET" foods and still lose weight. I never feel hungry, or that I am missing anything. Donna has kept the FUN in the FOOD, with EASE in PREPARATION. Her recipes work! Her recipes are excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm so glad for book 3!, October 4, 2001

I've had wonderful success with Low Carb Ideas-2 and couldn't wait to get book 3! I've lost 22 lbs! I was ready for some new ideas and now I have them. I've already tried the cheesecake, bacon/cheese soup, and several of the "quiche" casseroles. Loved them all. My roommate has been watching what I've been eating and can't believe it! She's now thinking about doing the low carbs, because her diet isn't working. Anyway, I love how most of the recipes are easy, yet tasty. The author has a great sense of humor in the recipes and seems to really enjoy and believe in what she's doing. I'll look forward to hearing about future books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Low Carb Ideas -Good Food 3 is Great Stuff, March 13, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Low-Carb Ideas: Good Food 3 (Paperback)
When my doctor recommended a low carb diet my family groaned!! I could eat whatever I wanted but they refused. I bought this book and just started cooking and they fell in love with the recipes. I had all the ingredients I needed-no hunting for strange or hard to find items. The soups are really flavorful and easy. The sauces add alot to dress up an ordinary meal. These recipes are easy and do not take long to prepare. ... I needed a cookbook that was filled with recipes that were easy, fast and flavorful. I found all that in in "Low Carb Ideas-Good Food 3." Not only did I find a great cookbook but I have lost weight too. ... Donna, my family thanks you. Thanks from me too!!

I have tried many of Donna's recipes and what I like is the ease of preparation. I am especially fond of her dip and sauce recipes.

2.0 out of 5 stars not what I expected, August 28, 2003

The recipes in this book were not what I expected. I thought the rave reviews meant it would be a great cookbook to add to my collection. I actually returned the book though because I was so disappointed. The recipes use a lot of unnatural ingredients (not including sugar substitutes--preferred by strict low-carb dieters) like pre-packaged sauce mixes. All it contains are recipes for desserts, sauces to put on meat and snacks. I was looking more for meal ideas and vegetable side dishes but that wasn't really the focus of this book. If you are like me and enjoy cooking meals with more of an artistic flair (i.e. flavorful, natural ingredients and more original recipes), this is not the book for you. However if you are looking for easy variations to plain, unoriginal recipes, you may enjoy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful low-carb IDEAS, September 11, 2003

I am amused by the criticism I read concerning Donna Johnson's recipes. If I were such a wonderful, creative cook, I wouldn't be looking for a cook book to start with. However, I am NOT creative in the kitchen, and I appreciate even (or especially) the simplest ideas. Please note that her title does not profess the book to be anything it is not. Her book is filled with ideas for low carb eating. Like Karen Trammell, I have lost weight using these "ideas."
Yes, the book does contain many recipes for sweets--for which I am eternally grateful!!! The desserts are often the greatest obstacle in low-carb eating, but Donna has solved our problem. I hold off a carb attack by making chocolate or peanut butter "ice cream sort of." My daughters, who do not follow a low-carb diet, would rather eat vanilla "ice cream sort of" than real ice cream.
I highly suggest Donna's book of ideas. I understand she has a fourth book in the works and I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars New in the Kitchen, September 10, 2003
This review is from: Low-Carb Ideas: Good Food 3 (Paperback)
I have recently married (about a year) and have discovered there is another option than eating out.

I am not the most experienced cook, so I was a little nervous attempting some of these dishes. I have fallen in love with this book! It is very easy to understand and follow and I am proud to say that I have not ruined a meal yet.

This book has given me so many new ideas on how to eat and maintain a low carb diet with a great varity of dishes.

Of all the dishes I have made from "Low Carb Ideas", I have not disliked any of them. Infact, my favorite is the Coconut Shrimp!!!

My family loves it as well. I would recommend this book to anyone!!!!!!

The recipes in this book are awsome!! You don't have to be on a diet to enjoy them.
Everyone in our office has at least one copy, and uses it on a regular basis. Thanks Donna for giving us such a great book. Can't wait till you put another one together so everyone can enjoy your new creations. You are great!!!!
