5.0 out of 5 stars From Yankee to Southern Hostess, July 11, 2006
By
This review is from: Low Country Cooking:: a southern cookbook (Spiral-bound)
When I moved to Charleston SC I was faced with a whole new form of cooking. Grits? What the heck is that? Stew made with more frogs (aka Frogmore stew - no frogs!) Thankful I found Ms. Ohlingers Low Country Cooking book! Not only does she have wonderful southern recipes, she has included tips, advice and my favorite... "Living Like a Local". I am now proud to say that I've mastered "Sweet Tea", from her recipe, which is a staple here in the South. I will be including her book in my "Welcome to Charleston" gifts for my guest... now that I'm the proper Southern Hostess!

The Jambalaya is delicious. The directions for these recipes are so easy to follow, even for a nonprofessional cook like me!

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFULLY WRITTEN AND PRESENTED, May 30, 2007
This review is from: Low Country Cooking:: a southern cookbook (Spiral-bound)
Just wanted to say that I have enjoyed the receipes that are in this cookbook. My father always loved fried okra and fried tomatoes and I was thrilled to see this included in a cookbook. Thank you Ashley for including items in your cookbook that Bapaw and Nannan would have enjoyed seeing. This cookbook is excellent.

Re-create the flavors of the Low-country no mater where you live. As Charleston native now living in Atlanta I missed the tastes of the Low-country until Christmas when I received this book. It is full of wonderful recipes, menus, gift ideas, and much more. The book itself is a GREAT GIFT idea. I can't wait to try my first Pig Pickin'...my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Yum!!
