5.0 out of 5 stars control what goes into your food - and it still tastes great
the best thing about this book (aside from the fact that the recipes taste just like the real thing) is that YOU control what goes into the food, not someone in a (perhaps) dirty restaraunt kitchen, or in a factory where they infuse food with chemicals and preservatives. all of your favorite recipes are in here - low fat AND yummy. i recommend it to anyone who dines...

2.0 out of 5 stars Review
This book was OK, but a lot of the recipes were for dishes I do not eat. I did not find it all that helpful. But, I'm pretty much a meat, potatoes & veggie person. I don't do fish & a lot of other dishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars glad there is a low fat version, April 14, 2003
This review is from: Low-Fat Top Secret Recipes (Paperback)
the top secret recipe concept is great. I like that I can *clone* my favorite recipes at home...for much less cost. The traditional top secret recipes are not usually low fat. The prime consideration is taste. While this is a good thing, it makes it hard to incorporate them into a diet program.

With this version it is possible. In general I find the top secret recipes a bit heavy on ingredients... which can be a bit of a pain during prep and also the cost of expanding your panty. But to be able to make some favorites at home, at a fraction of the cost and now...low fat. Its a great alternative!

As editor of Low-Fat-Recipes.com, I can affirm this is the best cook book you can imagine for the junk food addict. Not only will you reduce the calories but it will fatten your pocketbook as you duplicate for pennies what costs dollars in these fast food restaurants. Read and enjoy and watch the pounds drop away while enjoying the foods you have been addicted to consuming.

This is a good book. There several recipes for places I have never gone to or were not offered at my locations. I look forward to trying and serving something different to my family.

What a great book. Ever wanted to know how to cook those delicious restaurant recipes? How about making them just as good, but with a whole lot less fat? Then this is the book for you. I especially love the Olive Garden chicken parmesan recipe. I've never gotten crispy chicken from the oven before!

1.0 out of 5 stars U Don't Even Need 2 Cook These...., July 16, 2006

...to see that they taste nothing like the originals.

Here's an example: The recipe for the Carl's Jr. Charbroiled Chicken Club Sandwich has: 2 skinless chicken breasts, 1/2 cup teriyaki marinade, 4 whole wheat hamburger buns, 8 slices turkey bacon, 1/4 cup fat free mayo, 1 cup alfalfa sprouts, 4 lettuce leaves, 4 large slices of tomato and 4 slices fat free swiss cheese.

How does turkey bacon, fat free mayo, fat free swiss and a whole wheat bun even come close to comparing to this gem from Carl's? That's ridiculous to suggest. There is no skill involved in this book. My 4 year old could substitute fat free ingredients for full fat ones and try to call it the same thing.

His book, Top Secret Recipes Lite does the same thing. A Wendy's single has fat free cheese, fat free mayo and a leaner cut of beef. Big deal. We've all had that cheeseburger before. How does it taste at all like Wendy's? In theory, this book is a great idea. In practice, he didn't even come remotely close (that said, I've tried his books with the full fat versions and some of the recipes are actually pretty good).
