Dramatic Images of Air War in the Pacific!, February 24, 2009
This review is from: Low Level Attack: The Pacific (Air Combat Photo History) (Paperback)
The PTO air war produced some of the most dramatic images of air combat ever. Many of the missions flown by U.S. airmen in the Pacific involved low-level strafing and bombing missions on airfields, shipping, etc. which, in turn, made for jaw-dropping photography. John Lambert brings together over 190 of those images in this, the first in a series of "Air Combat Photo History" volumes designed to graphically potrtray air combat.
LOW-LEVEL ATTACK: THE PACIFIC runs the photographic gamut from shots of A-20s sweeping across airfields dispensing parafrags and 500-lb. bombs to hapless Japanese merchant shipping and warships being blown apart by Mustangs, Privateers and Avengers; snaps of spectacular nose art; B-25s crashing in flames; vistas of SBDs, Mustangs, etc. on the prowl or rolling in on targets; various crashlanded USAAF and USN aircraft; close-up views of armament; etc. Some of the photos, understandably, are of poor quality but together they present a dramatic view of air combat Pacific-style.
Air combat fans will enjoy LOW-LEVEL ATTACK: THE PACIFIC. Long out of print, finding a copy at a reasonable price will be the kicker. Recommended.
