A Growling, Blistering Aural Assault,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Low Life (Audio CD)
If it had not been for the free CD sampler provided with a recent issue of MOJO magazine, I'd likely never have heard of the Beasts of Bourbon. But the one song sampled was reason enough to hear more.
Low Life is actually one of the finest neo-goth/punk records I have heard recently. You will hear influences ranging from early Nick Cave to Naked Prey to Arthur Lee in this growling, blistering aural assault. I like the whole CD well enough, but my favorites are The Low Road, a stunning cover of the Jagger/Richards composition C*cksucker Blues, the driving Just Right, and the slow-burning Saturated. Beasts of Bourbon play with the boundless energy and with all the rebellious posturing of early punk bands. Australia has given much in the way of music to the world, with the Beasts of Bourbon it adds to the tally. If you occasionally like your music loud, vulgar, and in-your-face, Low Life is an album you should hear.
