I really think there is enough good material on this album to make it worth purchasing. I gave it a 4, because I don't completely love it. I do, however, think it is their best effort so far, and purchase-worthy. Some of these songs on being played on public radio stations, like WDET's Essential Music Show and Acoustic Cafe show, but that does not mean that the Swell Season has not crossed over to bigger audiences. I think the mass audience can and will appreciate The Swell Season's music. And, if you haven't seen their movie, you might like it, as well. However, I will warn you that it is pretty much filled with music and there isn't much plot. I liked it, because amid all of their problems and dysfunctions, they seemed happy! Anyway, like I said, you will know "once" and for all if you like their music or not, by watching this movie.
Some songs on this album are definitely 5s, and you need to have those in your collection. So, overall, pick up the cd, and support these singer-songwriters. They will make you happy, too! |
