Just back from Colorado archery elk hunt and wore these boots every day for about 10 days. Very comfortable from day one. Good ankle support and good traction. Ground wet every morning and feet did not get wet - though did not test in full water. My only compaint, minor, is the bottom hook to lace the boot is in strange postion relative to tongue holder in center and makes that bottom hook little hard to do quickly. Overall great boot and would purchase again - in fact - will look for Lowa in future boot purchase. I wear 7-7 1/2 (Euro 40)shoes and these fit me with thick socks in 7 1/2.

Lowa Zephyr for both daily wear and hiking,

Having wide feet has always been problematic for me in purchasing either dress shoes or sport/hiking shoes. After wearing mid-sized hiking boots made by a popular competitor, I decided that I needed to to find a more comfortable one for a lengthy trip to China where I was to be traveling extensively, including climbing and hiking along the Great Wall at one of its more unrepaired locations: Gubeikou.
For six weeks I wore the boot every day, including ne day 8 hours of hiking for 8 hours in 95 degree August heat while carrying 20 pounds of camera equipment. The Lowa Men's Zephyr GTX Mid Hiking boot never let me down. It was comfortable, durable, and rugged, and light wieight, while just being high enough to give me adequate ankle protection. I now own 3 pairs (two of which were bought from Amazon) and find it difficult to wear any other shoe or boot. How can I when the Lowa fits just like a glove?

Awesome out of the Box - No Break-In Period,

Received these last week from Amazon. I preferred the brown/tan so that they wouldn't show as much dirt. As soon as I opened the box, I knew I had found a great pair of shoes. The soles were flexible and the boots lightweight. Next, I put them on and I found heaven in a boot. These boots feel great. Just the right amount of toe room for me - not too much like other boots I had tried on in the stores.
The real test was the first hike. I don't want to have to break-in any new shoes - period. I won't buy stiff, hard shoes/boots. So with no break-in, I took off on the Ohlone Wilderness Trail out of Livermore, CA and climbed a total of 4000' ascent and 4000' back down - over 13 miles in 8 hours. This was a strenuous hike and the Lowa Zephyr GTX Boots were great. My feet felt fine. My only thought was why didn't I get these sooner.

Comfortable but colors are deceptive,

I bought these after many hours of research on a light hiking mid level boot. They are made in Slovakia and are of very high quality. At a local store I had tried on Asolo boots as my first choice, but they were immediately uncomfortable no matter what size I tried. It was risky to get these boots online, but I could not find any local retailer that sold them. With Amazon's no questions asked return policy however, I decided to try them anyway.
They were extremely comfortable as soon as I put them on. The review videos online that say the boot does not even need to be broken in are true. The only negative I have is that the colors mine came in are not as advertised on Amazon. As the picture shows for these, I expected a boot with a black support structure on the bottom. However, the boot I was sold has a dark beige color instead. Just be aware that the color scheme has apparently changed from the manufacturer, and Amazon's photos are not always accurate. I'll be keeping mine regardless of the color differences. Just in case it helps you while buying, the size for the Asolos that I tried on at a local store was the same size I ordered these in online. If you have a retailer that sells Asolos, you can use those as a way to get your Lowa size--without worrying about getting it right since boot sizes tend to differ greatly sometimes.

Great Multi Purpose Boots,
This review is from: Lowa Men's Zephyr GTX Mid Hiking Boot (Apparel)
I purchased these boots about four months ago and have used them for almost everything. I have worn these boots almost every day to work, to school, and on my camping/backpacking adventures. The abuse I have given these boots is formidable. I took them on a 5 day backpacking trip on the Appalachian trail during the winter in 3 feet of snow. The boots stayed mostly dry and were warm with my doubled wool socks. Drying the boots next to the fire worked a bit too well and I ended up melting part of the sole but even with a compromised integrity these boots have still held up to my highest standards. I most likely have put about 300 miles on these boots so far. I even ran a 5k in these boots with a 25pd pack and they offered great support. This really could only be possible with the profile the boots have. they are designed like running shoes and light trail shoes. I am very satisfied with these boots and most likely will be purchasing another pair of these boots so that I can outfit someone else and have a back up. I am confident these boots with proper care have 2-3 years of life. Like many others have said though you need to order at least one size larger but that is a rule of thumb for hiking boots. You need extra room for socks esp if your hiking in winter. Keep in mind though these are LIGHT boots and if you are doing heavy hiking like 10-15 miles a day on terrain for a week + you will need honest to god backpacking heavy boots. I always say though to the people I outfit you need 3 pairs of boots: A heavy pair for serious backpacking with 45-60 pound pack, an insulated boot for winter and a light pair for everything else and daily use. I would heavily suggest these boots for a light pair.

Great Boot But Some Things Should Be Noted,

I bought these boots in beige/brown. However, they are NOT the same coloring as pictured. At first I was a bit concerned thinking the boots I received might be some older version of these boots. However they are not, they are a newer version of the boot. The Mono molding is not black as pictured here it is a medium dark brownish gray color. The tongue is not partially black and the lace is not multi colored as pictured here either. They are both a kaki tan. There is no crisscross piece for the lace to go through on the upper center of the tongue. Even the beige/tan colors of the boot is different. In my opinion these are actually a nicer color but you may like the ones pictured here better.....it's just a matter of color preference. Anyway, Amazon needs to update their photos on this color on the Zephyr GTX mid boot but you can go to Lowa site and see the exact coloring and the slight variance of detail differences on there. Overall I would say these boots are great. They are well made, comfortable and good looking! Do keep in mind that in most hiking boots you do need to go up a half or more size larger than other shoes/boots. That is the case here as well. I bought a half of size larger but am not certain just yet that I may have needed to purchase a whole size larger instead. Amazon has great customer service though so as long a you just wear them gently inside the house. One can exchange them if needed as long as they are still as received, showing no visible signs of wear and within their specified time frame for returns. Although I haven't actually tested these boots in hiking situations yet I do believe these boots will hold up and do so comfortably assuming that one buys their correct size in them. I hope this helps some in your decision to purchase these boots or not.

Purchased these based on other customer reviews. Tried these and several other brands at different stores for size and fit. Glad I did since these run a bit small and I needed to order them a half size bigger than I normally wear. Very nice looking boot. Put them on and immediately went for a brisk 3 mile walk. No pinch or rub points, extremely comfortable right out of the box. I'm not a hard core hiker, but I've owned enough other hiking boots to know that I am going to be very happy with these. Can't vouch for how well they stand up to water but if your looking for a rugged, good looking and comfortable hiking boot I can recommend these.

Look good, but not sized properly.,
This review is from: Lowa Men's Zephyr GTX Mid Hiking Boot (Apparel)
I initially purchased the Lowa Zephyr GTX Mid's in a size 11.5 mens. This is the size shoe I normally purchase and 99% of them fit fine. The toe box area on these were extremely tight, unbearably so, thus I returned them.
I wanted to give the boots a second chance, so I ordered them in a size 12. The left boot in the size 12 fit fine, but the right one seemed to be way off as far as the width of the toe box was concerned. It was like wearing a size 12 on my left and a size 11 on my right. (and i did check to see they were both size 12) Mind you that my feet are not wide at all, and that although everybodys individual two feet maybe slightly different in size, I never had these problems before, and certainly do not expect it from a nearly $200 boot. I wish they could rectify my problem, but i am not going to keep wasting more money in return shipping. |
