5.0 out of 5 stars Lowa, where have you been all of my life?! And they're made in a progressive democracy, too!!, March 31, 2011

These are fabulous shoes! They are comfortable, good-looking, and together with the HTP heel cups and Sorbothane arch supports, the best answer to alleviating my acute plantar fasciitis condition that I've found in many, many years of searching. Although I've only been wearing them for about four weeks, I feel sufficient time has passed to say that these are an answer to my prayers. And they are not shoes that are specially designed for those of us with problems, which makes this all the more remarkable, I think.

I spend a fair amount of time outdoors, too, and have owned many different sorts of hiking shoes over the years. I'd say that these are tops in that area, too. I purchased both the Renegade in a low cut, as well as the Tempest, as the customer service person I contacted through Lowa's very informative web site told me that they are structurally the same (the lasts). Both have great looks, too!

And there was yet another added moral bonus. They're not made in China!!! Lowa is an established German company. As their website explains, manufacturing (and materials sourcing) is only done in Europe, under the highest environmental standards in the world. Both my models were manufactured in Slovakia, a progressive democracy, very unlike China. I love this aspect, as it seems crystal clear that when we purchase things made in China, we are in effect, supporting a non-democratic, very repressive regime that directly benefits from an industrial base that has polluted to an extent not allowed in the west in 25 years, engages in unfair trade (currency manipulation, subsidies, non-respect for rule of law, and more), censors its internet, represses and imprisons its intellectuals (remember the recent Nobel Prize winner and his family??- sadly, one example among many...), and treats it minorities horribly (Tibetans, Uyghurs, and more...). With the complicity of greedy western CEO's, the completely lopsided playing field in trade and industry they've created is undermining the west's middle classes.

So, these shoes are an all around huge win for those of us that connect the dots, and don't like the line... I've seldom been happier with a product or a company! I hope that other companies will follow Lowa's lead in all of these areas, and that consumers will "vote" with their wallets or purses and effect positive change for all, independent of politics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good looking, durable and comfortable, January 8, 2011

These are really handsome shoes, they fit well (snuggly tight to the entire foot), and are very comfortable. I bought them just prior to a big adventure trek vacation in Costa Rica, and they were the only shoes I used during that trip. They got a huge test of a workout, in lots of rain, street walking, and hiking in very challenging weather and terrain conditions that included hiking on muddy and rocky mountains horseback riding, and crossing a bunch of shallow rocky streams. I think these shoes must be waterproof because my socks never got wet. They are hugely handsome with a pair of jeans I thought and seemed to look sharp when wearing rugged looking shorts. The particular color of shoes I bought are the navy blue and black ones (called "dark grey/navy"), and they have a really rugged, smart look to them. The picture on Amazon is true to the color they appear when they showed up. I say that because I've ordered shoes before that looked one color online and showed up looking considerably different. Anyway, this company Lowa got it right with these. I've never heard of Lowa before, and bought them on blind hope and faith. I've was pleasantly surprised. Personally I think the price is worth it, but only if you're going to get lots of use out of them. Oh, and as for shipping speed, they did seem to arrive quite quickly after I placed the order (but I don't know off-hand where they were shipped from). The only thing I have a concern about is that I got them hugely dirty, and I don't know how to clean them. Hopefully that can be figured out given the type of materials these are made of (some of it looks to be suede, and much of it a leather, I think, without reading the specs online). Anyway, bottom line: I love them.

The LOWA Renegade II Lo Hiking Boot is a very well-made, and obviously a high-quality shoe. I REALLY wanted to enjoy these boots for years, however, to my disappointment, the toe box proved rather tight and cramped for my somewhat wide and high instep feet! Had they come in a WIDE or 2EE Width, that might have improved the situation, but alas, they only are available in Medium Width. Other than that, I was quite impressed with the LOWA Quality workmanship and great outsole! For those with a low (normal) instep and narrow feet, I imagine this shoe would be awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not many things in life are perfect, October 9, 2011
This review is from: Lowa Men's Renegade II GTX Lo Hiking Shoe (Apparel)
These are perfect. Not many things in life are perfect. I have a pair of older Lowa lightweight hikers which I've used and used. To replace them, I went to an outdoor store with a wide variety of brands. Tried them all on, etc. etc.. and on this open competition, ended up with another pair of Lowa! They just feel right to me, offer excellent support and are made of quality materials which last forever.

Hiking shoes are a lot more functional and better structured than regular shoes, so why not wear them all the time? The reason is that they often have garish designs which won't do in business meetings. These Lowa's are dignified in appearance; I can wear them to work. Finally, Lowa's are made in Slovakia, which I prefer to Asia - they seem to care more about details and workmanship.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great everyday shoe too, January 11, 2012

This is my second pair, the first started out as an everyday or only shoe for 3 months around Europe. Then Back home the Lowa became my go to shoe around town in all weather conditions. Sturdy, supportive, comfortable and great quality material it lasted 4 years until the rubber sole was wearing out. So I bought a new pair before a trip to Panama. Same great experience and now back home its my go to shoe again. AND I have way too many other shoes...

Shoes fit a little tight for a couple days, but are now feeling better. Very well made! Most expensive shoes I have bought, but seem to be worth the cost.
